Question about App Clip Update Behavior

Hello,

I would like to understand the update behavior for App Clips.

Let's consider a scenario where a user has an App Clip on their device from a previous interaction. If I, as the developer, then publish a new version of the App Clip to the App Store, what is the expected behavior?

My main questions are: Will the App Clip be automatically updated in the background? Or, is user action required to get the new version, for example, by deleting the old one and re-launching it from a Smart App Banner or QR code?

Any information on this process would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Will the App Clip be automatically updated in the background?

Yes. The system automatically replaces the current version with the updated version once it is approved by Apple and available for download.

Thank you for the quick and clear response!

Just to confirm my understanding: an existing App Clip on a user's iPhone will be automatically replaced by the system with the newly published version, much like a background app update, Is that correct?

Thanks again for your help!

@DTS Engineer

Sorry to bother you again, but could I ask one more quick question?

I'm curious about the "Background App Refresh" setting. Does it also apply to App Clips? For example, if I turn off this setting, will an App Clip remain on an older version even after a new version is published?

I'm trying to understand the scenarios where an App Clip might not update, so I can test those use cases.

Thanks again!
