Swift Student Challenge - iPhone content

The app idea I had in mind for my swift student chalange submission relies on data on the users phone(e.g. photos, contacts or files) How would I simulate that data in the swiftpm package? is it enough to just have a class with dummydata?

Thanks for the post. I would recommend to look at the Student Challenge FAQ and go over the rules. I am not in that team and I can’t speak by them. I read the rules and my interpretation is, yes, absolutely! For the Swift Student Challenge, having a class or struct with dummy data is not only enough but often the recommended approach when your app idea relies on user-specific data like photos, contacts, or files to avoid having a device with that data.

The challenge is about showcasing your creativity, technical skill, and the potential of your app idea. Using dummy data allows you to focus on the core functionality. You avoid the need to request sensitive user permissions (e.g., Photos, Contacts) which can add complexity and potential failure points if not handled perfectly. Your project becomes entirely self-contained.

By using dummy data, you create a robust and review-friendly submission that clearly demonstrates your app's concept and your technical abilities without unnecessary complexity. Good luck with your Swift Student Challenge submission!

Please note that this is my personal opinion and I am not affiliated with the team responsible for managing the Swift Student Challenge. I recommend reaching out to them via email to request their guidance as well and hope you get also more answers from developers here about the best way to provide dummy data on your app.
