Have you got a single SteamVR app working with High Sierra + external GPU

Hi all!
Hope you're well. Spent all day setting up High Sierra, SteamVR etc. The outcome? Not a single Steam VR app working...
Has anyone got anything working on High Sierra with SteamVR yet?

Tried so many games, none work. It's always the same error: ""An error occured while updating [Game Name] (invalid platform)"

Can someone please help me understand: Are Steam VR games/apps – like AltSpace / Google Tilt Brush / etc – supposed to work with the Dev Kit GPU + High Sierra?

...Or does each game have to release an OSX compatible version?

If the latter is true, it seems the options are:

1) wait for ppl to release apple Vive comaptible games for Steam, etc),
2) try to install windows via bootcamp and see if that works – anyone know if this works? ideal would be to use mac but apple seems so far behind here; or
3) buy a windows laptop (reliable) / VR system...(honestly wish i'd just done this from the start lol – makes it much more portable too!)

4) any other options?

I bought the Dev kit assuming basic Vive apps would work with High Sierra. Big mistake haha...

What's your advice?!

Thanks

Hey R,

I have been in the same boat for the last two wees; bought a new iMac with the Radeon 580, Vive setup, and upgraded to High Sierra sort of expecting it to just, poof, work. Here's what I've found out along the way:

There is no content on SteamVR that supports macs, according to emails from Valve addressing my questions.

The HomeVRbeta on steam doesn't work; there's just the loading white room.

Running bootcamp with Windows10 is the only way I've been able to use the hardware (and everything just - works... frustratingly well).

So far, I haven't been able to consistently get SteamVR and Unity to work together; there is always *something* wrong; Vive is in 'extended mode' won't reset to direct mode; controllers and shaders are pink; the list just goes on and on.

I thought there would be native support following the WWDC from Apple but it looks like we'll have to keep waiting as support rolls out. I was too excited and pulled the trigger the same day, knowing it was risky in the interim. My advice is run bootcamp. You'll be amazed at how everying works without glitches; usually the other way around in my experience. If you have any updates from your end, I'm all ears, best of luck!

How did you get it to work with BootCamp? I have not been able to get it to work. I am using a 2016 Macbook Pro with TouchBar.

Hi,

Im in the same boat. I got the sonnet running on my mac (MacPro 2013) using a thunderbolt adapter. Finally got the Vive connected and active, but steamvr failed to allow me to use room setup. The system would freeze and sometimes the room setup window would turn red during the freeze. It seems its always trying to update - I wonder if thats the issue.

So I installed bootcamp with Windows 10. Got that running and connected the sonnet device - it seems that windows tried to auto config the drivers or something - things were crawling - couldnt use the mouse due to erratic tracking - something was running in the background bringing the system to a crawl - rebooted and then windows 10 never recovered - cant complete the restart into windows. First the windows icon appears with a spinning graphic, then the windows icon goes away and the spining icon remains - forever. I had to shutdown the computer holding the power button down for a few seconds.

Not sure what to do now.

I've guessed that "Invalid platform" means that it's a Windows app. On the other hand, none of the apps that say that they support macOS are working for me either, they just crash.
