Hello, no one else seems to be having this problem. My Apple Pencil is paired with my iPad Pro and shows as charging but will not write. The screen displays a series of dots instead of a solid stroke and there’s a latency. The pencil worked perfectly before I updated to iOS 11. Nonetheless I changed the tip but no luck. I hate to install iOS 10 again but my primary use for my iPad Pro is hand writing. Any tips?
Apple Pencil won’t write
i am experiencing the same problem if I put my palm on the screen. If I hold it upright, it seems to be working. I see this in the note app and in paper
I'm also having this problem. I can't write on notes I can use any ofther stylus to highlight but I do use my pencil to write.
I have the same issue. For me it seems to be when I am resting my hand on the screen to write. I then get inconsistent. Writing, some works, some invisible and some dotted. Very frustrating as it worked fine until I updated to os11 yesterday.
IT is worse on some third party apps like NOTES PLUS and INKredible.
I Thought it might be the app but NO.
I am having this problem, in particular with applications like ExplainEverything and GoodNotes.
Strokes with the pencil sometimes dissolve into single dots or vanish again completely. Writing becomes a tedious process. Pencil appears to be much more easily disturbed by the palm resting on the screen. Changing the tip did not help.
The problem appeared after upgrading to iOS 11. I did not notice anything like this before that - the pencil worked just fine.
"Forgetting" the bluetooth device and then pairing again appeared to help a bit, at least temporarily.
I have similar problems, the iPad screen lags with whatever I draw with the pencil. Didn't properly time the lag, but it feels like there is a lag of up to a second.
I experienced the same problem. It appears to be an issue with iOS 11 and the palm-rejection - I don't have the issue when I'm not resting the palm on the screen which is an inconvenience when handwriting for extended periods of time.
Does any one from Apple read this blosgs? it's clearly not something we can solve by forgetting and re-pairing the pencil, resetting the apps, etc... it's another bug in iOS that needs to be solved by them.
I'm experiencing the same problem also. However, my friend who uses Apple pencil and also upgraded to iOS 11 does not have this problem. We both have 9.7 in iPad Pros.
Same problem since uptdating to iOS 11 now on 11.1. Have an iPad Pro 12.9 and 9.7 ″. Writing can be inconsistent resulting in dotty-ness and some lag. Seems unrelated to location on the screen. Tried replacing the nub and didn’t fix. Tried restarting and it didn’t fix.
I have the same problem/issue after updating to iOS11.01.
Working with iPad Pro 12.9”, while drawing in Concepts (pro version, multiple layers), I experience lagging in drawing lines. Exactly why I did not use the bamboo pencil on my iPad Air anymore. :-(
It is pretty annoying, since I am a designer and need the precision.
Before the update no isuues at all.
Same issue here. I’m actually on the beta 11.1 b4. I am using an iPad Pro 12.9 first gen with an Apple Pencil. Most of my pencil work is done primarily using the procreate and concepts apps. The lag issue is VERY BAD on those two apps. It def has something to do with the Palm detection tech. I really hope Apple can rectify this situation as soon as possible. I understand there’s not too many people who use the iPad professionally but I’m sure Apple likes to know that it is possible. With this issue, using the iPad professionally is not a viable option really. Also this seems to go against the perception from Apple that the iPad can truly replace a laptop or desktop. I really hope Apple takes this seriously as it could absolutely affect the decision for other to keep purchasing iPad pros. I have faith in the Brand and product but this issue really should have been rectified much sooner. Regardless, I hold out hope that a fix is on its way soon.
I had both the issue with the pencil drawing dots as well as terrible cringe inducing lag on separate occasions. I found there was a separate solution to each in my case:
Dotted Line:
I had activated zoom in my settings. While it wasn’t actively running, having it switched on passively in the background is a known glitch that causes issues with the Apple Pencil while your hand is resting on the screen. Shutting off zoom in settings completely resolved the issue.
Lagging:
When you delete things, documents or images for example, your iPad doesn’t actually delete them. It just puts them in another folder for a while. In some cases third party apps don’t delete these items for months! This fills your RAM with heaps of clutter. The very same RAM your iPad uses to draw the Apple Pencil. In my cases emptying those caches on both my iPad iOS and my third party apps that we’re facing the issue solved the lagging. I had hundreds of drawings and documents clogging my system I never were still there.
Hopefully that information helps somebody.
Cheers.
Did anyone come through a solution for this? I am facing the same problem with my Goodnotes and OneNote.
