Hello Developers, I'm wondering if anyone of you knows if swift student challenge apps are evaluated on real device or on a simulator ? Actually, I'm working on an app which requires iPad Taptic Engine, and I don't wanna restart it from scratch a week before submissions cause I'll learn the evaluations are on a simulator. So, if anyone can explain me how apps are evaluated, that would be great.
Thank you!!
IMPORTANT The 2026 challenge is now finished. Nothing has been announced about a 20207 challenge. Presumably that there is one, the rules might be different.

Both (-:
In the 2026 challenge you could request a test environment at submission time:
- If you requested the Swift Playground app, your submission was tested on a real device.
- If you requested Xcode, your submission was tested on the simulator.
But, as I noted above, those were the rules for the 2026 challenge and I can’t guarantee that they’ll be in place next year. In fact, I’m hoping that we tweak the rules somewhat because this year’s setup caused problems.
Share and Enjoy
