Issues with Sequoia 15.7.8, Gmail and Apple Mail

I just posted that shows the exact same issue I ran into. To me this is a Sev 1 issue that I hope the Apple Mail Developer team is addressing and pushing a fix ASAP. The update from this morning 15.7.8 (24G817) did not help.

because this a Beta version my question keeps getting rejected in the support communities and I was directed here.

I was directed to go here from the Communities forum as this was with beta software. And they deleted my post asking me to contact you. So I am not sure what you mean. Ping-pong is not fun when you have a Sev 1 issue. Thank you

MacOS Sequoia 15.7.8 is a security-focused update release, not a beta, as far as I am aware. However, if the discussion forums do not wish to accept it, we can escalate the issue to the Mail team by submitting a bug report. Please let me know if you would like to pursue this route.

I thought I was going insane with this bug! It's good to know it appears to be an issue with 15.7.8 - hopefully it can be fixed as a matter of urgency. Thank you for raising awareness about this.

Hi Raj, I wasn't able to access/find the bug report you submitted.

I am dealing with similar issues since updating the OS to 15.7.8: Outlook isn't connecting (Gmail & Exchange), OneDrive isn't connecting, Safari isn't connecting either (Chrome works fine), and the software update can't check for updates, etc.

All this while traveling abroad :-(. Hope this gets resolved soon.

Amit - Yes still stuck and I see absolutely no movement on the bug. I am totally surprised unless we are missing something really big. @DTS Engineer Albert - what can we do.

I must add - that my Calendar, Notes, Contacts are working just fine. It is only MAIL that has the issue. Thanks. Raj

Update July 21: The issue now affects both my personal Gmail account and my Google Workspace account. Both are enabled under Internet Accounts and “Enable this account” is checked in Mail, but both display as Inactive. The accounts work normally through Gmail in a browser. Removing and re-adding them did not resolve the issue. macOS Sequoia 15.7.8 build 24G817

@DC2026 I keep updating to the latest with the faintest hope that I going to be surprised - but no luck so far. Still all messed up and this is really painful.

How can this not be resolved yet? It has been over a week. Apple Mail is rendered useless. Will Apple stop supporting it?

Indeed, very painful.

My Mac can't even check for updates: 'Can't load data from the Apple Software Update server. Retry...'.

Confirmed as still unresolved for me, too. No feedback on my report in the Feedback Hub. Very, very frustrating!

July 26 update: The Gmail and Google Workspace accounts are still inactive in Apple Mail on macOS Sequoia 15.7.8 (24G817), even though Mail is enabled for each account under Internet Accounts.

I have now confirmed a second issue that appears connected. After freeing approximately 20 GB of storage, I left Mail open and available space fell to 1.85 GB. After restarting, only about 5.9 GB was available.

Terminal showed that ~/Library/Mail had grown from 81 GB on July 21 to 93 GB on July 26. Mail Downloads was essentially empty, so this was not attachment-cache growth. A new local mailbox named Import-15.mbox had appeared and grown to approximately 11 GB. Removing that newly generated mailbox reduced the Mail folder to approximately 83 GB, but the account activation issue remains unchanged.

I am now keeping Mail closed because leaving it open appears to generate additional local mailbox data and rapidly consume disk space.

Has anyone else seen Mail repeatedly create large numbered Import mailboxes while Google accounts remain inactive? I would appreciate guidance on what logs or diagnostics would be most useful for the Mail engineering team.

@DC2026 Ever since this issue - I have kept mail closed, so cannot report on the growth. Maybe you should also disable Mail in your Internet Accounts in settings, and see if that causes the growth to stop. I see orphaned accounts folder in my email. I decided to remove all but one of my Internet accounts till this issue is fixed. As indicated before Calendar, Contacts and Notes works just fine - so those are enabled. For what it is worth this is what I see:

Affected system: Apple-silicon Mac running macOS Sequoia 15.7.8 (24G824).

Google OAuth completes successfully and Mail is enabled under Internet Accounts, but both personal Gmail and Google Workspace accounts immediately appear as Inactive in Apple Mail. The issue reproduces across multiple accounts, and removing and re-adding them does not help.

The accountsd log shows:

The same missing-library failure also occurs for iCloudIDAuthentication.bundle. The errors began after installing build 24G824.

Build 24G824 confirms that the issue remains present after the previously reported 24G817 and 24G822 builds. Please add **

Yesterday's Safari update seems to have fixed it for me. I haven't done beta update from a couple day ago, just the Safari updates. Went to Mail just now, where my Google accounts showed as Enabled with no information. Unchecked and rechecked Enable, and they logged right in and showed up on the sidebar.

@nottooloud Thanks for providing the post. Hope everyone can check if the update fixed the issue. Can you provide the version number that fixed your issue?
