Hi all, I'm a dual US/Australian citizen, resident in Australia and trading as an Australian sole trader. My developer account is registered in Australia.
In App Store Connect under Agreements > Tax Forms, the only US forms offered are W-8BEN and W-8BEN-E (which explicitly are not for US citizens). There's no W-9 in the list, and the (+) button only adds from the same country-based set.
I've opened a support request asking Apple to enable W-9 and withdraw the W-8BEN over a week ago, but haven't heard back.
Has anyone had Apple enable W-9 on an account registered outside the US? Did they do it in place, or did they require changing the account's registered country/region first?
If the country had to change — what did that break? Bank account, existing agreements, anything on live apps?
Roughly how long did the support request take? This is blocking Paid Apps from going Active for me.
I don't know how you're going to handle this. Please follow up if and when it gets resolved.
First of all, the fact that this is blocking Paid Apps for you is a Very Good Thing.
If you didn't already know. The USA requires all US citizens to file income tax in the US, regardless of where they live. So this is more of a question for your lawyers and accountants rather than Apple.
I'm a dual US/Canadian citizen. This is insanely complicated, both on the US and non-US sides.
You'll need to find an accountant with international experience. That's your first step. Any other first step is guaranteed to be wrong.
