Can't backup to iTunes on IOS 9 Beta 2

I can't backup to iTunes on IOS 9 Beta 2 on my iPad Mini 1st gen Wifi. I get the error "iTunes could not back up the iPad "insert iPad name here" because an error occured". I tried to backup my older iPod Touch 4th gen on IOS 6.1.6 and it worked perfectly with no errors. What's going on here? Is it a bug with IOS 9 or something?

If you've discounted everything here, then it's likely that iTunes' older backup for your iPad has become corrupted.

To access the folder where the backup is stored:

Mac:

select Finder and press Shift + Command + G and copy-paste the following:

~/Library/ApplicationSupport/MobileSync/Backup/

Windows:

\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

There will be folders with names comprising of strings of hexadecimals. One of them is the iPad backup that needs to be renamed so that iTunes doesn't see it. Don't delete it until you know it's the problem, just add OLD (or whatever) to its name.

Occasionally renaming isn't enough and you have to move the folder to another location.

I moved the backup folder to my desktop and the same thing happened again.

To be 100% sure the issue is not related to the old backup, rename it, move it again, and reboot before trying to backup to iTunes again.

If that still doesn't do it then try it again after each of the following measures:

  1. Reset (Nothing is lost): Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
  2. Reset all settings (Only settings are lost): Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

Or, you could just wait and cross your fingers for DP3, which will likely land in a couple of hours.

I guess I'm going to have to wait for IOS 9 Beta 3. None of the above worked.

Well if DP3 (which would have been available by now if it was coming today - maybe tomorrow) doesn't fix it then the only remaining solution I can see is the nuclear one, assuming you're prepared to revert to your user data (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) from your most recent iOS 8 backup.

You'll need to replace the backup folder and revert it to it's original name. You can then restore it to factory settings via iTunes and reinstall iOS 9 (if you're still happy to rely on beta software) and finally restore your user data from the backup.

Ding ding ding! It worked!
