DNSSEC validation hangs since root KSK rollover (KSK-2024, key tag 38696); getaddrinfo never returns

Feedback ID: FB25211847

Since 2026-10-11 the root DNSKEY RRset is signed only by KSK-2024 (key tag 38696). With DNSSEC required using nw_parameters_set_requires_dnssec_validation(parameters, YES), mDNSResponder fetches the full chain (icann.org A/DNSKEY/DS, org DNSKEY/DS, root DNSKEY) from the local resolver. All records are present and all signatures validate. After the root DNSKEY query concludes, no validation result is logged, no result or error is delivered to the getaddrinfo request, and later requests for the same name attach as duplicates to the stuck questions and also never return. Without DNSSEC required, the connection succeeds immediately.

Suspected cause: KSK-2024 missing from the built-in trust anchors. Secondary issue: validation failure is not reported to the client; the request hangs indefinitely.

Thanks for confirming this! I strongly suggest implementing RFC 5011 to make sure this doesn't happen again in the future :)
