xcode 9 (9A235) horrible performance...

So i updated xcode to 9 after seeing this in the app store

The source code editor has been completely rebuilt for amazing speed. It scrolls at a constantly smooth rate, no matter the files size.

wait

what

cause for now im just force quitting every hour when everything freezes over

swift code highligth/completion is still broken.

and speed is still amazingly super slow.

oh and opening a storyboard still takes forever

someone needs to explain to me how can an editor become so useless

I miss the days i was working with visual studio 😟

...device in storyboard to iPhone X makes no difference for me.

Also the size of the storyboard doesn’t seam to make any difference. Mine is 127kb. To big?

Any new suggestions?

Most people reported having slow performance on the storyboard. In my case, I've seen this slowness issue on editing source code which is pure obj-c code. Type one character and then wait or mins to come back. Have to go back to 8.3.3 to edit the code and then compiled with Xcode 9.

Same here. Using iPhone X simulator makes no diff to the slowness when you open/edit the Storyboard.

What I observed is if you create a new project with simpler UI, it isn't as slow (although not snappy either), I have not identified

exactly what sort of complexity before you hit this. Like many on this thread, I may need to go back to xcode 8.3.x and use

it to edit storyboard.

Same here. Working with the Interface Builder is practically impossible. I really can't understand why such an obvious bug is overlooked and gets into the release. Apple fix Xcode now! 😠

Echoing the gallery here. Xcode 9 is barely usable on a project I started last year in xcode 8. It's not evne a big project, but Xcode 9 beachballs all the time, Syntax Highlighting is contantly crashing, and I have regularly seen SourceKit take up 400% CPU. Like, c'mon! It's anarchy, I tell ya, anarchy.

I've actually resorted to using Sublime Text 3 to edit my code. It's snappy, decent syntax checking, and there are many plugins that make it a suitable alternative to xcode.

Same problem here. All my C++ projects that worked fine in Xcode 8 now regularly beachball for long periods when doing "Jump to Definition". Overall performance very poor. Considering switching to CLion, it's that bad.

..... but the average app store review time has fallen down to a few hours. They will get my app without autolayout or any constraints.

What seemed to help the situation for me was to refactor any view with a MKMapView into its own Storyboard. Time will tell, but so far my Storyboard performance has increased again. I'm not sure it's because of the MKMapView, or just because I moved out two views from the Main storyboard, or some other combination of issues. Hope it helps.

So, where're Apple representatives? Will they even answer when they're going to fix this major issue?

Meanwhile, I have to restart Xcode every hour-ish so it won't hang unexpectedly in the middle of development. This is so frustrating!

Any news on this? I'm loosing my last remaining strands of hair!!

Same here. After I updated to xcode 9 everything is too slow.

When I opened my old project and closed the project, xcode kept loading loading loading loadin loading loading .......... forever.

And before I can be able to shutdown my MacBook Pro, I need to force close xcode everytime.

This version is totally **** and unusable. I'm so upset with this.

Same problem here, It's extremely slow, nerly not possible to work with soryboards.

Autocoplitions also is very slow!

😟 😠

anyone having problems with slow storyboards just set your device in storyboard to iPhone X. Will be fast as your used to.

the same - Xcode9 is very slow... thank you very much for your tip! Refactor storyboard bring a better performance (before 1.8 MB)!!! I hope Xcode 9.X will be better...

xcode 9 (9A235) horrible performance...
