xcode 9 (9A235) horrible performance...

So i updated xcode to 9 after seeing this in the app store

The source code editor has been completely rebuilt for amazing speed. It scrolls at a constantly smooth rate, no matter the files size.

wait

what

cause for now im just force quitting every hour when everything freezes over

swift code highligth/completion is still broken.

and speed is still amazingly super slow.

oh and opening a storyboard still takes forever

someone needs to explain to me how can an editor become so useless

I miss the days i was working with visual studio 😟

I turned off auto refresh view and it didn't help.

I'm also new to xcode, and the performance of xcode is not what I'd expect from an Apple product. It takes about 5-10 seconds for every action I make in xcode. I hope they are planning to fix this...

Don't hold your breath - performance has been a complaint for years...check out what was said about Xcode 3, back in 2010:

Same problem i run it on i7 - 8 Gb Ram machine

and it is so slowly

Regardless of version, and how easy Xcode makes it to fault our tools, none of us should accept having to work as a dev with a mac that only has 8GB physical ram in today's environment. Same for a space constricted HD/SSD, small screen and lack of a tested and reliable backup.

Full of hope installed the newest xCode Version 9.0.1 (9A1004) ...

no improvements so far ...

interface builder is broken again ...

very disappointing 😟

Only solution for me is the following. Convert to Swift 4. Quit Xcode every 2 hours, or when its off in never never land, then run a script that deletes derived data folder, removes Xcode caches, and resets all simulators. Occasionally I have to reboot, so I must be missing something in my script.

If I don't do this then I get all of the problems mentioned above, plus Xcode testing randomly fails. Even doing this I cannot get Xcode UI or unit tests to consistently pass or fail.

XCode 9.0.1 still with all the same issues that everyone here is talking about.

XCode 9.1 Beta 3 also stills with all the issues as 9.0.1

Loosing time and distractions like this really **** me off. Apple should not release new versions that are half baked.

Turn off "indexing", "code sense", "code suggestions" and all other services. All runs flashing.

It's very bad, stuck, lagging and crashing.

Can not open storyboard, slow changing. Very very bad. I'm getting alot problem with Xcode 9

Storyboard hangs for me with the beachball.

Hoping a new beta fixes these issues so I can move on to Xcode 9 without having to use 8 all the time.

Same bug here, thre is nothing I can do to work with my projects. Did someone test Xcode 9.1 beta 2?

Late to the game. But same here.

The only thing Xcode 9 does faster than Xcode 8 is scrolling inside a document. Code Completion is so horrible slow and partially downright wrong.

It constantly gets confused about where to put parentheses and braces. Amazing. 2017 and a 10s of documents almost dictating us developers just how important it is to provide users with an excellent experience.

Perhaps the Xcode team weren't privi to those documents as they were all removed from the Xcode API Documentation Browser.

But I belive there are archives to be read. They really give a good idea on how to please a customer !

Perhaps Apple could look over to https://www.sublimetext.com

Those guys know how to build a speedy TextEditor that never gets sick at sea !

It uses OpenGL to render. And while Xcode 9 renders fast. SublimeText is another ballgame.. No, it aint even the same sport 😁

On the praising side of things... The depth of Xcode 9's, although very non-performant, capabilities are vast and unsurpassed in every regard. IMO.

We just need the speed which we are used to from 3rd pty. developers.

I dont think this is a good idea. I believe that you will wind up the same place after a little while....

It's no better.

xcode 9 (9A235) horrible performance...
