iPhone app should run-on iPad too, says AppStore

I re-submitted my quote app, this time using 108 images with back and forward button, a share functionality with UIActivityController, 3 more screens with Mapkit displaying location and info, and two with pdf displayed using WebKit, thought I had addressed all their previous questions, but no, the reason given is:

  • Even if your app was developed specifically for iPhone, users should still be able to use your app on iPad.
  • App ir primarily a pdf (But I have only two pdf docs diplaying)
  • We encourage you to review your app concept and incorporate different content and features that are in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.

Not sure what else to add to make it be accepted. Any ideas?

1. You've skipped over the part where you explain what your app actually does, and how any of those new features are at all relevant.

2. The part about "must be able to run it on an iPad" usually means that either your app layout doesn't work properly in compatibility mode, or you haven't actually tested your app on an iPad. This is a bug, you need to fix it.

Ntoe that the forum strips out images, and links get detained, so you need to use words to explain your app.

I disagree. I ran into the same issue. My app works on all iPhones and iPads with the exception 9.7 inch. Which is not due to anything I'm doing, but in fact.. is due to how apple has decided to display it in zoom mode. This is not a bug, and honestly if the app is desgned for the iPhone then users should not be allowed to run it on the iPad. Nor should I as a developer need to design around platforms that it was not designed for. This is ridiculous.

Seems shortsighted to fault a manuf. for pushing support across a product line tied at the hip to their worldwide mobile ecosystem. Take Apple's hint by making a fuller committment and creating Universals, instead of iPhone/touch-only, and join the party.

Hi! Thaks for your input, the app has 4 screens. First is home screen with 4 buttons and 4 bar buttons at bottom. First screen has 108 images with quotes (of a saint) and back and forward buttons that take you through the quote images, and a share button I implemented with UIAcitivityVC; second screen has a map and location info about the ashram/retreat; third and fourth have a WebView which display pdfs. (Initially when I submitted it was just a random generated text quote, it was rejected for minimum functionality, and KMT had suggested to add more as did the appstore, so went ahead and did that). Last month there was no provision for ipad as I built it for iPhone only, this time, within a month, they say ithas to work on iPad as well, which I'm trying to fix with Universal setting. Am trying to add sound files of chants etc. The app will be relevant to teh devotees of the sage, which I told apple guys too. Hope that clarifies. Thanks again.
