When a free trial (1 month) is about to expire, is the user notified or does it silently convert to a paid subsciption?

I would expect silent conversion. It is up to the user to cancel the auto renewal for the case of an auto-renewable subscription..
I would expect, as with all autorenewable subscription renewals, the user is informed 24 hours before the payment is required giving them the option to opt out if they wish.
