CloudKit support in In-House apps

I am interested in developing an in-house app for my company that requires a common data set shared on the server. CloudKit seems ideal for this, but the first page of the CloudKit Quick Start Guide states: "CloudKit is an app service available only to apps distributed through the store."


Am I correct in understanding that CloudKit is not available for my needs? If so, is AWS the best alternative for iOS integration?

CloudKit is avaliable to any App Store or In-house apps. Those documents are out of date.
