IMAP Gmail account

I have just downloaded El Capitan. I have a problem with Mail. It cannot connect to IMAP Gmail. Thus I cannot down load mail from gmail. However I can send emails through Gmail as it use a pop account for this. Also, if I try to change any of the settings og Gmail in the advanced section of the account, it asks for them to be saved which I do. When I go back into the account I see they are not saved. It shows 0 as the port number. If I enter 993 which I think is the correct port number, again it does not save it.

Has anyone any ideas.

hello,

i had the same issue after the el capitan installation and using gmail mail box trough the mail app.

I open and closed the mail app until i get no more error message.

it seems that there is some issues between the el capitan and the antivirus installed blocking some services as for instance the mac app store.

try in this way: disable the antivirus, launch the mail app and if everything is ok, then activate again the antivirus.

Thanks Flashpoint you have had more luck than I. I have deactivated the virus protection and open and closed mail many times.

The problem seems to be that the mail port is fixed at 0 and we I put in the correct port it will not save it. In simple terms it won't save any changes.
