macOS beta Software Installation Guide

Beta versions of macOS software are available to develop apps that take advantage of the latest features of macOS and to test existing apps for compatibility.

Beta software is intended only for installation on development devices registered with your Apple Developer Program membership. Make sure to back up your Mac before installing beta software. Attempting to install this version of macOS in an unauthorized manner could put your device in an unusable state and necessitate an out of warranty repair.

System Requirements

The macOS Developer Beta Access Utility can only be used on systems running OS X 10.8 or later.

Installing macOS beta Software on your Mac using the macOS Developer Beta Access Utility

  1. Download the macOS Developer Beta Access Utility from the Apple Developer download page.
  2. Open the macOS Developer Beta Access Utility from the location it was downloaded to in the previous step and follow the instructions.
  3. Once installation has completed you’ll be presented with the macOS beta in the Mac App Store. Then click the Download button to install the beta.
  4. As new macOS betas become available you will receive a notification and can install it from the Updates pane in the Mac App Store.
