iOS 9 beta 1 back up corrupt?

I downloaded the beta 1 a week or so ago and have had no issues.

However I have had to take my iPhone to apple today due to a hardware issue and they have swapped my phone with a new one. I have since downloaded iOS 9 beta 2 to the new phone and then tried to restore the phone with the back up i made prior to coming to the Apple store.

However, after the 20 minutes or so it takes to go through the 'Restoring iPhone from back up' screen, it comes up with an error at the end of:

"'iTunes could not restore the iPhone because the back up was corrupt or not compatiable wioth the iPhone being restored".

Is the issue because the phone when I backed it up, was running beta 1, and there is now beta 2?

Do I need to install the iOS 9 beta 1 software, then restore my phone and then update it to beta 2?

Any suggestions would be great... Really hope my backup isnt corrupt and I havent lost everything!

Thanks for your help.

Sorry to hear that Jemmy - it was never a sure thing given that you're on a different beta.

So, you can either use a backup manager to restore aspects of your backup piecemeal to your iPhone, or you could attempt installing Beta 1 again...

Which seems more appealing?

Where can i find the beta 1? In my head that seems to be the only way to get the backup to restore properly will be with the beta 1...

Will a backup manager definatelt be able to restore my messages?

A good backup manager will, yes.

I can't point you at a download of Public Beta 1 because your iPhone is explicily out of warranty as soon as you install a version of iOS from a non-Apple domain. Your search would be further confused because it has exactly the same build number as Developer Beta 3 (13A4293g).

In that case I won't download a version of iOS from a non-Apple domain, plus the build number makes it even more complicated!

Ill use the iExplorer back up manager. WIll I have to purchase the full version in order to transfer my photos / messages accross? (I'll also

I just looked at their website and, yes, you would.

Before you go doing that though (unless you've got plently of money or you would find it useful to have anyway), I'd say there's a pretty good chance that this issue will be fixed in a future beta, quite possibly the next one. We don't know when the next Public Beta will be out, but so far there's been a consistent 2 week gap between them, and Beta 2 was released 2 days ago...

Hmm... I'd already p[aid the £20, for what it will save (hopefully) that's fine.

I'm only bothered about my text messages and photos. When i click 'Export all conversations' for the text message option it says I have 3 options: .txt or .csv or .pdf - Which should I do, and once done how do I get that onto my iPhone?

Sorry for all the questions, not sure how to Google that one to get the appropriate answer!

That's okay.

In the meantime, this being a live situation, someone else in your boat thinks they may have identified the critical file. I've changed the guide above again if you feel like being a guinea-pig 🙂

*oink* *squeak* (or whatever noise it is they make!) I'll give it a ago now 🙂

Problem solved! Who'd habe thought that it would have been something as simple as deleting that battery saver file!

FYI - I still had the other file deleted as well, so works either way.

Thank you so much for all your help! 🙂 ✅

Great to hear!!

Now that I can confidently state that this works, it will help lots of others in the same situation.

I hope that you find a use for the £20 app 😊...

Thanks for giving the fix a go, and best wishes to you (I enjoyed your guinea-pig noises btw 😁)

Well it's really you that has taken time out of your day to help me (and I'm sure many other people) so THANK YOU! 🙂

Yeah... I'll email the people and see if I can get a refund!

Hi Max,

I have tried to follow these instructions verbatim to rectify my corrupt file error. Problem is, I do not see the exact "batterysaver" file in my list anywhere. Over the past few weeks have you found another corrupt file if that did not appear? My backup on iTunes was from Public Beta 3 FYI.

Hi Kyle,

No new file, but you can search for "battery" - that takes you to the right file - there's only one result.

Max.

I LOVE YOU MAX!!!!! You don't understand how happy and relieved I am that I found this thread!

The only backup I had of all my data on my iPhone was when I had iOS 9 Beta 1 installed. While I was running iOS 9 Beta 1, I did a soft reset (hold Home & Power button simultaneously), and the iOS brought me to a "Hello" screen which prompted me to update my iOS to the latest beta, but eventually ended up forcing me set my iPhone up as a new iPhone. I have tried everything for the last 3 days to restore my backup that was on iOS 9 Beta 1, and was in the same boat as JemmyP. I was about to give up and start all over again...and then I found this thread.

I installed the latest public beta - iOS 9 Beta 3, and performed the steps exactly like you outlined and BAM! Worked like a charm baybeeee!!! I'm so happy, and I can't thank you enough Max. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!! I got my life (data) back!!!!!! Thank you so much Max!!!!!

Very happy to hear it 🙂
