Say, Max, how do you know about these? I've been kind of amazed that you know all the command-line tricks to get stuff from the Apple servers.

Thanks!

How did you learn about the CDN and catalog in the first place? I never knew they existed in the first place.

Through piecing bits and peices together that I read, then playing around with what I find out mostly 🙂

I'm certainly not the first or only though - I know that tywebboooo, for example, was accessing these catalogs before I discovered them.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing that with me! 🙂

Would you be so kind to post these links for the Public Beta 5 too?

Thanks!

Hi Envo,

Happy to do that but there have been quite a few people getting Public Beta and Dev Beta updates mixed up, which could potentially introduce issues on top of the regular beta ones (this has happened a couple of times already). I'm therefore hesitant to post them in a question marked "Beta 7 Direct Download". If you post a question titled "Public Beta 5 Direct Download" though, I put them right up...

Max.

Can I update from beta 1 to beta 7 by using this update?

I have tried this already and it seems to work, but is this supported?

They have just released a new instaler hopefully a full one straight to beta 7

anybody else have stupid slow download speeds both through the app store and the direct links ?

Yes, 2 days to download it said. Had to go to a coffeshop to download the updates. I have time-warner at home, so it's probably some kind of network problem.

I believe there is a full Beta 7 installer but I cannot find it.

I don't know about the new installer, but I downloaded the beta 1 from MAS and then I used the two packages of beta 7 and the update worked fine. I am on beta 7 now and I didn't have to go through the nightmare of installing all betas.

Apple should really provide full installers all the time. This year especially they have made testing much more complex and time consuming for us..

Did that work? Is it actually a Time Warner issue? I'm also on TW and can't update to beta 5...

Sorry for the stupid question but i'm very new.

Whats the firmware file for? i installed the delta file without it and all semmed to go fine, but im wondering now.

Given that there is supposed to be a full DP7 installer, I am baffled by its absence in the developer area.

The update update update route is stopping me trying DP7 on another iMac.

You have to click "Download OS X El Capitan 10.11 beta 7" to get a new redemption code. Redeeming the new code in the mac app store will then get you a new full installer for DP7.

I am old but must also be blind and stupid. I cannot find a route to getting a new redemption code.

Fascinating. I just went to App Store and decided to download ElCap Beta on this other iMac despite the fact that it looked as if I might get the original. However, the creation date looked promising. I booted the other iMac to a 10.10 external and hit Install. The external is running DP7, with none of the update, update nonsense. Clearly the original redemption code allowed this.

Edit: So the action in my case was easy, even if it was not obvious which build would arrive. It is 15A263e, exactly the same as the update by update on the older iMac which has been running ElCap since early June. I did save a copy of the installer.

I keep a record of my redemption codes to see if they change. Such changes indicate new full installer releases. What prompted me to click on "Download OS X El Capitan 10.11 beta 7" was that even though my old code was on there for months, it suddenly recently disappeared. Clicking on that link created a new redemption code and I was able to redeem it to get the full DP7 in the mac app store.

Of course you have to be logged in with your developer id at https://developer.apple.com/osx/download/ as well as the mac app store for this to work.

I'm being very explicit here because I don't think apple communicate these intricacies very well. I doubt if the majority of developers even know that DP7 is available as a full installer!

To make a bootable usb for the DP7 full installer (slightly different to DP1 due to slightly different installer name):

Format a USB drive (preferably 16GB USB3) which should be called Untitled and formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The installer should be called Install OS X El Capitan Developer Beta.app and should be in your Applications folder.

Run this in terminal and wait about 20 minutes:

sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan\ Developer\ Beta.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan\ Developer\ Beta.app --nointeraction

You can boot up from it by selecting it from the startup manager you get when starting your computer and holding down the option key.

If the installation creates a core storage logical volume you can revert it to get partitions back to normal by running these 2 commands in terminal.

diskutil cs list

and then

diskutil coreStorage revert lvUUID

where lvUUID is the last lvUUID reported by the previous Terminal command.

Then restart for everything to get back to normal after you have run these commands in Terminal.

Agreed. I found out by taking a chance, hoping it was NOT Beta 1. 😉

Having saved a copy of the installer (more than one in fact) and having tried B7 on a TB external, the 5k iMac is now running on internal Fusion drive.

So far, so good with no hiccups.

I have the same issue with slow downloads here at switzerland (swisscom). Even my speedests show me 80mbps down and 20mbps up, tv and other downloads running fine over that dsl-line, but anything relatet to apple (apple tv picture gallery is almost unusabel, itunes downloads terrible slow) running slow. for me it looks like the isp slowing apple down in some way, even they strongly deny it.
