Display not awakening after Beta El Capitan 15A263e install

Display not awakening after Beta El Capitan 15A263e install, I can hear the CPU running, however the only way i can get the display back is to restart,

I must say I am enjoying the jocular jabbering and jesting but you two are making me 'parrotnoid'. 😝

sorry about that. 😁

You should be! 😝 That was awful.. 😁

😁😁😁

Day 3 report--computer sat all night, monitor left on, and no problem waking it up this morning.

Tentative conclusion:

Although far from a Mynah problem, I think it may well have been the Parrot, as Max discovered and pointed out. 👿

The Parrot was a couple years old, and maybe not compatible with El Capitan. I may try adding a newer version of Parrot, just to see what happens, although I don't need the program now.

@GellieG, I don't know if you're still getting updated on this thread or if you un-followed a while back but (at the risk of perpetuating parrotnoia) it would be useful to know if you also have an old AirParrotDriver.kext or two on your system. Towards that end, please could you post the output of the following:

ls /System/Library/Extensions/AirParrotDriver.kext ; ls /Library/Extensions/AirParrotDriver.kext

Thanks,

Max

Max, look what I just found on a Google search of Parrot and failure to awaken!

miapple dot me/fixing-frozen-black-screen-sleep-mac-os-x-10-10-2-yosemite/

A frozen or black screen after sleep on Mac OS X 10.10.2 (beta 1, beta 2, beta 3) is often caused by a incompatible third-party display driver and is easily fixed by removing that display driver or delete completely the third-party app, e.g. via using CleanMyMac 2 for completely uninstalling the app. In my case, the culprit was AirParrot 2, an app for screen mirroring to an Apple TV or Chromecast and for desktop extension to a Mac or Windows PC

Ah-ha! The evidence is mounting - 😀 - Perhaps not parrotnoid after all!

Btw, to round out the AirParrot kext list, ensure that you don't have APExtFramebuffer.kext in your /Library/Extesnions/ and /System/Library/Extesnions/ folders - that's another one of the Parrot's.

Thanks, Max, I did have those two kext files. Probably they weren't doing much on their own, but they are gone now.

By the way, I can't find a way to get email notifications from this forum or thread when someone adds a post, even though I am a participant. I've looked everywhere. I have an Apple account, or else I couldn't reply here, but maybe you have to be a developer or have more than a Level 1 to get notifications.

Edit: Now I see. You can check "Follow" for the entire forum but not, apparently, for a selected thread. That would amount to a lot of emails, it seems to me.

Click "Welcome KenV54" in the top left of any forum page > Preferences > Inbox = On. I have the others toggled to On and Yes also.

You are automatically following any thread you participate in.

OK--now I see the Preferences and have checked the notifications. Don't know how I missed that.

Meanwhile, I let the computer sit for about 2 hours tonight, monitor plugged in and left on, and it didn't awaken properly. I had removed the additional two Parrot kext files earier, but had not rebooted, so naturally they were still in the memory if they had been loaded. Here's the log file, beginning at 7:54 or so. I'll see if there's any problem tonight, now that I assume all the Parrot files are gone.

Sad to say, but the mystery continues.

So far as I know, all traces of Parrot are gone. Everything else is working fine, but the computer still won't awaken, almost randomly. After several hours in its dormant state, whatever that is, but with the monitor on, it didn't awaken this morning.

But wait! Just checked, and automatic graphics switching was turned on. I had turned it off a couple days ago. There have been a couple of voluntary reboots since then, but I know I never turned AGW back on. Maybe Schrödingers cat got into the OS and did it. I'll turn it off again.

Here's the log again, with a 9:48.46 AM start:

I looked into AirParrot and the APExtFramebuffer kexts were indeed the last of it - so that can be ruled out now - leaving some combination of Power Nap, Automatic Graphics Switching, and External Monitor(s) triggering a bug in the one or more of the native graphics kexts as the probable cause...

Now that Parrot is really gone, I guess I have to start over, leaving the monitor connected and on, and making sure that the automatic graphics switching stays unchecked. Then, if the fail to wake persists, I'll first try turning the monitor off, then if that doesn't work, I'll try disconnecting the monitor.
