Scanning For Working Copies...

Xcode hangs forever on this step, blocks Indexing

Is there a workaround?

I tried following your steps, but I couldn't find socketfilterfw in the Activity Monitor, and turning off firewall did not help to resolve the issue.

I've got the same issue but only for some projects. I have a bunch of frameworks some dependent on others. Where there are simple dependencies or not too many I don't get the problem. But further up the dependency hierarchy I the 'scanning for working copies' is constant and I can't get rid of it. If I turn off source control it stops but I need to create Bots for each of the frameworks and I have to turn on source control to do that and instantly it starts scanning for working copies.

I left it to run over night to see if it would finish but it doesn't.

I've got nothing remarkable showing in activity monitor and overall cpu load is pretty low.

I'm using the latest XCode 7 public release. Last night I installed the latest patch from the app store and briefly one of my frameworks that wasn't working did work. But as soon as I opened a framework project that previously also had the problem it came back and now the problem is just the same as before.

I am experiencing the same issue with svn, so it seems to be repository-agnostic.

My HIGHLY INCONVENIENT workaround:

1) Turn off Source Control in Preferences.

2) Quit Xcode

3) Open Xcode

4) Open project having trouble

5) Let indexing finish

6) Re-enable Source Control

Rinse and repeat when this project inevitably and inexplicably starts infinitely Scanning for Working Copies again.

Anxiously awaiting Xcode 7.0.2 which will hopefully fix this problem!

Turning source control on and off hasn't worked for me. I've had better luck with quitting Xcode, deleting the derived data and then re-opening xcode.

We're like those pigeons where they correlate some random motion they were doing when they got the food pellet, and then start a ritualistic behaviour. My current dance to get rid of the 'Scanning for working copies' is to check in some sourcecode and then restart Xcode. Works every time.

This works for me, intermittently as well..but it ***** with this infinite looping of scanning for working copy. I hope apple releases a fix soon for it.

I see neither of these running , this is sieriusly impacting productivity here, any ideas on a real fix? Tried all the various workarounds but non seem to work reliably, I have zero code completion source controll is not working.

"Scanning for Working Copies" has been plaguing my Xcode too. Disabling Source Control, restarting, re-enabling Source Control worked once, but then the problem returned. Trying it again did not work. It immediately went into "Scanning for Working Copies" after I restarted with Source Control enabled again.

I haven't played with the Xcode 7.1 beta, but I wonder if the problem persists there? I'm running Xcode 7.0.1.

7.1 Beta 1 & 2 did not work. Have not checked Beta 3, but it is not mentioned in the release notes, so I would not get very excited about it.

For me, Xcode 7.1 beta 3 (7B85) fixed the issue, and all other issues related to source control in Xcode.
