My 27inch 5k iMac boots and after the Apple logo I get a black screen with the mouse cursor. If I move the mouse to where the login should be and find the dialog box to enter my password the machine will login and work fine. Just the lock screen will not show. All black! Any ideas? Running GM

No change. Left it unplugged for a few minutes and still black lock screen. I am going with a bug here and I hope it can be fixed soon!
Yes, even though it may only affect a minority of people with a certain system and external monitor setup, it is still a bug so it would be good to report it either via the Feedback Assistant app or from https://bugreport.apple.com

No I don't think so - their location implies that they're non-essential.

You could try reinstalling OS X over itself with Recovery Mode - this often fixes problems that are intrinsic to the OS. It won't affect your user enviroment though - it only replaces the system files.
