Touch ID MacOS Big Sur

Since Updating MacOS Big Sur, I am unable to add new finger prints, or use finger prints to unlock my Mac.

anyone else with this issue?

I met the same issue and thanked to other users here, I did successfully use Touch ID again. Please click the following link and do as instructed.

I have solved this by using the steps from https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201295 (the steps to reset the SMC)

After I logged in, in the System Preferences -> Touch ID I had to check again "Unlocking your Mac"

yeah I got the same problem . mt Touch ID is not working anymore . I thought the problem was form the settings so I tried to delete it in order to add another one , and the surprise was that I couldn't add a new one !!!
Yes, the option to use touch i.d. no longer shows up on my lock screen.

Had to reset the SMC and the issue seems resolved! Yay!

YES, I CAN'T ADD FINGERPRINT, I can't make changes to my system preferences although my password is correct !!!

SMC reset works OK to correct this bug.
Means:
> shut down your Mac
> press Power button for more than 10 seconds
> restart your Mac
After this it should work

I had to do two things to make touch-id work. I am running a MBP 2016 and upgraded from Catalina to Big Sur 11.1 today.

  1. Shut down your Mac.

  2. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, then release the button. (You'll hear a quick swoosh)

  3. Wait a few seconds, then press the power button to turn on your Mac.

THEN!!!! You must enable unlocking here:
  1. Re-enable "Unlocking your Mac" in System Preferences -> Touch ID.

Same problem. It shows my fingerprint is still active but I cannot use it to log on to my macbook pro

Yes downloaded it last week and now several things will not work. Touch ID is one of them. HELP!!
PLEASE _ Would love some clarity on the all those suggestions of holding start button down for 10 seconds, releasing and then pressing again and its all fixed

THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR ME

When I press start button for 10 seconds with light pressure, medium pressure or high pressure my 2019 MBP simply...Starts UP, like it should and touch ID simply does not work.

Is there any other solution out there? Should I be using another key combination??? Why is this even happening??
