Re: Advice

Good day Developers I am hoping you have a moment to give me some advice.

I am currently looking to make a total career change at the age of 49 and determined to achieve becoming an IOS developer starting obviously at the very bottom junior level with the intention of continuous learning.

I have no background in IT so am hoping the established experts here could give me a very quick outline of what you would expect from someone starting out in this field as a base for entry level roles and an eagerness to learn.

The intention is to complete any courses available online to enable a foot into the industry and I am currently looking at learning swift (UI) and Xcode via the available material from apple - what else should I be looking at and do you have any recommendations on an initial path/particular courses for a junior IOS developer?

Many thanks in advance for your time.

Starting learning Swift, SwiftUI (and UIKit) and Xcode is a good start. It will take you some time (a few months) to reach a first level where you be autonomous in designing an app. Apple tutorials are a good start here and progressively you'll find more advanced materials (Stanford course on iOS is particularly interesting to understand deeper in iOS).

Developing a simple app is a good test to consolidate your knowledge.

If you plan to work in a company, you will probably have to learn:

  • web technologies, as many apps interface with servers
  • technics and tools for debugging and analyse code
  • tools for workgroups, such as Github.

But, start the first step and enjoy.
