Battery dropping really fast on Watch OS4

I've been running Watch OS4 for a week and I observed that some days the battery lasted longer and other days it dropped really fast. I didn't use the watch so much and i am wondering if anyone has battery problems? On watch OS.3 the battery usually lasted 2 days but now it lasts like maximum 18 hours. I know that this problem is mainly due to the Beta but i wonder if anyone has found a solution to this problem.

Watch OS4 is very nice and crisp and I like it very much especially the fitness app and music app. Apple took some time to develop these applications and they are not final but they are really nice. Other stuff that I like is the redesigned lock screen and the animations that seem more realistic compared to Watch OS 3.

The Phone application has more functionalty compared to Watch OS 3 and the importing of music is now faster.

My conclusion is that Watch OS4 is very innovative and futuristic.

Do any of you have the location icon on all the time? Cause i have it on all the time on the watch and phone. I think that it's a bug regarding the News App which is triggering all the time the GPS function.

Thanks for the extra details, Sergex89. That's very helpful.

If you (or anyone else) is still seeing poor battery life, please file a bug report and include a sysdiagnose taken after the drain happens. Instructions on how to gather that can be found here: http://adcdownload.apple.com/iOS/watchOS_Logs/sysdiagnose_Logging_Instructions.pdf

Thanks!

I managed to solve the problem by turning off the option for the location to be active when a watch face need to use it for example the Siri Watch Face. The location option should show up the position of the sun and moon phases. By default I am not interested of the position of the sun and moon. Maybe other users are interested but a thing is clear that it's a battery drainer.

Where is the setting to disable that?

The setting is in privacy-----> location services ------> Apple watch faces and i changed it to Never. That's how you find it and turn it off. My phone is on swedish so i translated the words but I hope you will find it 🙂 If not i will post a link with screenshots to guide you.

I did find it...thanks! My battery is still draining though after turning that off. I’m going to look through more Settings to see if it helps.

I notice it more with the Toy Story faces..Animation really kills the Battery

Unfortunately I think it’s any complication that requires location services. Weather, moon phase, etc. Only after turning that off did my battery return to normal.

Morning All

Ive reset my watch to standard (not from backup) and turned off the SIRI watch face.

My watch battery has returned to normal :-)

Ok. It's becoming very interesting to see how people resolve some situations. Good to know! Thanks Gary!

this worked for me... for the first day. the next day of charging it was back to the same 4-5 hours battery life

Tried this and got the same result. worked for the first day, but after the next day of charging, its back to 4-5 hours of life

Yep, Same here started from scratch, disabled location services, use a face without a location based complication (Weather) and my Series 0 will last about 5 to 6 hours. It seems to get worse when there’s no WiFi.

I have a second Series 0 paired running OS 3 (Utility with Weather) seems to be running a little shorter than normal against iOS 11, but better with location services turned of. With Location services on for the watch face OS 3 was lasting about as long as OS 4.

I think the issue is pipelined process.

After plugging my iPhone into Xcode > Instruments > Activity Monitor....

Whenever I launch/refresh/use certain apps on Apple Watch, pipelined process on iPhone will spike to consume maximum CPU.

This happens with certain 3p apps calling Location Services, but also is triggered by the stock Workout and Maps apps. Other native apps do not seem to be triggering this pipelined process; have tested on several, and I believe all that call Location Services.

(**the atc process also randomly consumes excessive CPU - but unsure what's triggering this**)

Watch battery level dropped from 100% to 55% in 3 hours. Never happened before WatchOS 4. I even re-paired it, with same result.
