Neither .ipa nor .zip will load

This is my first app and i've tried the following methods to load an app onto my ITunes Connect.

Some info:

• Deployment Target : 10.3
• Device : iPhone

Attempts:

1. Xcode Archives
   1. After validation, I clicked "Upload To App Store..."
   2. It uploaded, then i got an email about 20 mins later stating that it needed to be in a .zip file
2. Xcode Archives Export
   1. After validation, I clicked "Export"
   2. I changed the .ipa to a .zip extension
   3. Accessed Applicaiton Loader --> Deliver Your App
   4. I attempted to deliver app, then got an error stating that the file had to be a .ipa because i was using SDK 9 or greater
3. Excode Archives Export
   1. After validation, I cliked "Export"
   2. Access Applicaiton Loader --> Deliver Your App
   3. I apptemted to deliver app (as the .ipa file), then got an error stating that i needed a .zip file

I've looked at over 10 tutorials and numerous vidoes. I'm assuming its me because nothing I try seems to work. Can anyone offer assistance?
