I have an iPhone 7 Plus. When I am on a call and I try to open another applicaiton (e.g. messgaes, mail, maps), half the screen is black. This happens both in portrait and landscape mode. It also happens when the display zoom is set to either standard or zoomed. I've reset and power cycled the phone. I've closed all the back ground apps etc.
Any ideas before I downgrade back to 11.0.1?
While this did resolve the issue, I want to stress this is not "fix" the bug. It is merely a workaround. That being said, thank you for the workaround. Many people need reduce motion turned on.

Thank you so much for this. Just tried it. Going to test to see if it works. Even if it a workaround it's much appreciated it. I honestly was getting so frustrated I wanted to leave the program due to the bug.

Thank you, thank you, thank you .......This resolved my screen going half black also while taking a phone call and ussing an app at the same time on my iPhone7s Plus running IOS 11.1. I was going crazy trying to figure out how to resolve this issue, so thanks you kindly for helping me resolve my issue
