iOS 9 beta 3: Cannot switch languages using external keyboard.

SUMMARY:

Cannot switch input method (language) via Bluetooth keyboard because CMD+Space is now allocated for calling out Spotlight, which has been used for the language switcher since 2010.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1. Connect an external keyboard to iPad via Bluetooth (ex: Apple Wireless Keyboard).

2. Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard...

3. Add more languages. (ex: Korean)

4. Open Notes.app, type something, and hit CMD+Spcae.

ACTUAL RESULT:

Spotlight is called out.

EXPECTED RESULT:

Input Method should be switched (between English ↔︎ Korean, for example.)

REGRESSION:

CMD+Space for Spotlight is a new feature in iOS 9.0 beta 3. Before β3, the shortcut has been calling out the language switcher.

NOTES:

For OS X, CTRL+Space will be allocated for Spotlight if more than 1 input method are up in system. iOS should hire the same trick.

Control+ Space bar work for me too. Thanks for you advice.

I used Zagg keyboard on my iPad Mini2

If you press Ctrl + Space once you will see the actual language. Before the selection window goes away press Shift key (alone) as many times as you want and you'll go through all the language inputs you had defined. In my case Engligh, Spanish, Portuguese. Thanks for the tips. Still having two search buttons though 😕

Just updated to official iOS9 yesterday and got the same problem, so I found this post.

After testing the suggestions above, I've come to this conclusion;

To change between languages on iOS9

Method 1

  1. Press Control to call the languages option pop-up
  2. Then press Control again to change between languages

or

Method 2

  1. Press Control and hold, by doing this languages option will also pop-up
  2. Now

Either press space bar to change to next language available

Or press Shift to change to previous language availble

Notes that if you only use 2 languages, the result for tapping space bar and Shift will be the same.

You will see the difference when you're using 3 or more languages at the same time.

Still have to fix the used-to-press-cmd button habbit though

Until this issue came up, I'd never noticed that there's a <Cmd> key on the left of the spacebar and a <CTRL> key on the right. Never had any occasion to look for a <Ctrl> function. Until today, when the new iOS9 wouldn't let me switch language keyboards as usual.

I use a Logitech folio keyboard, and yes —just as others have suggested above— the <CTRL>+<Spacebar> combination works fine.

Why Apple felt it had to move the language change function from the left side of the space bar to the right side is a mystery to me. But that's one of the charms of Apple, isn't it?

I am experiencing the same issue with multiple keyboards and found this article which doesn't have a solution but has some good information http://appleinsider.com/articles/15/06/12/ios-9-hardware-keyboard-shortcuts-bring-apples-ipad-world-closer-to-the-mac.

I guess I just found a solution on my keyboard (wacom cintiq keyboard).

By pressing Ctrl+Space while in the "typing text" mode, it shows the same old language swithcer.

btw, im on iOS 9.1 beta 4
