Apple TV says I have an update, but it fails every time I try to install it.
Apple TV Update not successful
try plugging it in via ethernet. With Beta 2 when updating OTA it was failing over wifi but worked flawlessly over Ethernet
Please try again while connected to WiFi - updating from Seed 2 to Seed 3 should work via WiFi. If you're still having an issue, can you attach the console logs during the update attempt to a bug filed at developer.apple.com under tvOS?
Also had the same problem. Filed a bug report: 22994116
It looks like you're still on Seed 1. Updating from Seed 1 to Seed 2 via WiFi may not work, but Seed 2 to Seed 3 via WiFi should work.
I'm not sure Seed 1 to Seed 2 updates are still available. You may need to download Seed 3 from developer.apple.com and perform a clean install of tvOS Seed 3 using iTunes.
I can confirm that using an Ethernet cable updating works!
BTW, I had the bets 2 before. I guess that's the same as seed 2...
The log in the bug says your Apple TV was running Beta 1, so Ethernet is generally required when updating from Beta 1 to Beta 2 or later, but Ethernet is not required when updating from Beta 2 or later.
Well, then I guess the last update failed to - without me noticing it... 😊
I upgraded from beta2 with ethernet cable.
I got the 'don't turn off device' screen, with progress bar that went to the end.
Then a black screen.
After a few min I powercycled, and about page, still says beta2.
Will do iTunes upgrade now.

Does this failure to update from Seed 2 to Seed 3 reproduce if you try again using Software Update? If so, could you get console logs of this failure and attach them to a bug at bugreport.apple.com under tvOS?
Can you confirm that the build on your Apple TV after the update is now 13T5379f?
Yes, it is.
Sorry, just succesfully upgraded via iTunes.
My AppleTV is downstairs. My modem is upstairs. I have one of those desks with a shelf on top that goes near the ceiling (I keep my router/modem high in the sky). Moving the Apple TV to upgrade is going to take some doing. I'll let you know how it goes but I probably won't get around to it today.
I'm not be able to update it either even with Ethernet cable. iTunes stack with "Waiting for Apple TV...", and Apple TV's light is blinking slowly.
I was able to update it by (1) connecting to Ethernet cable, AND (2) removing HDMI cable.
