First install impressions?

Anyone get to it yet? Seems like a rather un-intimidating beta this year. Any first impressions on general relibality? (besides whats in the release notes)

I have 2007 MBP 15" I'll load it on. If there is ever a good preformance stress test, it's on old hardare. (also itching to try iOS 9 on my iPad 2)

ed Smooth instal so far. On my 2014 rMBP, part way through the black screen with white logo was off-set and when it first booted the Display preference had reverted to default. The desktop does not revert to El Capitan photo, but adopts whatever you had before. Tried Mail. It works as demonstrated but disappointed you cannot change the right swipe 'unread' and left swipe 'trash' to other options. I would like to right swipe 'archive'. The font is apparently San Francisco. 'About This Mac' shows the OS is 10.11, but the name is Yosemite.

So far so good. UX is pretty nice smooth. Very impressed for a b1 release. Notes is having some issues, but I am sure it will get fixed up quick considering they are clearly moving from an IMAP implementation to an iCloud Drive (CloudKit) implementation.

Installation was straightforward. In Mail, my Smart Mailboxes disappeared, replaced by a single "Today" smart mailbox which isn't working. Can no longer connect to the Time Machine backup folder on my primary server. (Other sharing looks OK.)

My about this mac showed "OS X Yosemite" at first but one i closed and reopened, it reset to El Capitan.

No major issues for me yet.

Few things that seem to be working thus far...

  • Parallels - Working (BootCamp broke however, but I never used it anyway. Using a new Windows 10 VM)
  • Office Suite - Preview of the 2015 apps all seem to work just fine
  • Chrome - Seeming to be ok. Hangouts, etc, working
  • Dropbox, Box, OneDrive, GoogleDrive - Seem to be working ok

Boot Camp broke for me as well. Unable to boot into the partition, nor able to remove it.

El Capitan broke my gaming keyboard extra buttons via Razer Synapse' lack of support (essential for my emacs usage), ipod nano doesn't show up in iTunes and my external harddrive (needed to backup to get back to Yosemite!!!) also isn't accessible. Very irritated about all this.😟 Why can't there just be an easy way to go back to a previous build... I can't do a clean wipe. Very disapointed and wish I had an exit strategy.

If you don't mind What machine are you running on?

For me it broke iCloud (the preference pane hangs up) and CardDAV Support in contacts.

Clean installation on a 13" rMBP 2015 using a USB flash drive went just fine, although a core storage volume was created. Since I didn't enable File Vault, I went ahead and reverted the logical volume using the coreStorage command.

However, I wasn't able to replace the codesign file in /usrs/bin with the OS X 10.9.4 version since I couldn't change ownership or file permissions. The system files are protected, apparently, which is probably not such a bad idea.

Numerous installations failed, so I was forced to restore my original Yosemite time machine backup. The following programs refused to install (after which I gave up and restored my earlier system):

- Tuxera NTFS for Mac

- Little Snitch

- iStat Menus

- OS X Fuse

- gdisk

- Gutenprint printer drivers (I have an old Canon BJC printer)

I'll wait and try again when some of the developers have had time to provide compatible programs.

Installation was shaky. Difficult to begin installation after download completed. Installation itself took twice as long as estimated. Screen went black for over 3 minutes two times.

Now that the beta is finally installed, I am very pleased. Mission control FINALLY animates with a high frame rate, even with translucency enabled. App launching and switching are noticably faster. Overall performance is buttery smooth.

Tried it on Mac Mini 2012. The hard drive speed is now seems to be significantly slower (this model has only HDD). Opening folders, loading web pages, copying files is now works extremely slow. Other than that, everything seem to be fine and smooth. I found no problems so far.

I am going back to Yosemite, i have 3 USB 3.0 dics connected. While i use the new OSX they fall down to sleep after a while. But when i put computer in Sleep they goes to sleep only to be woken by something all the time. Only way to is to turn of my new MacPro when i leave cause i allways been putting computer to sleep. I cant realy remember when i restarted before. Its WAY to buggy this OSX (El someting stupid name) =)

Installed it on two 2013 rMBP's, so far with few issues.

rMBP 1

- Installation changed halfway through, and apple logo was off centre (believe this was down to me not having the display at pure retina resolution, so looked like it was displaying a 1280x800 image anchored to the bottom left of a 1440x900 screen).

- Mail smart folders were removed, left with only Today. Was able to re-create them though with no issues.

- New Disk Utility application. Ran first aid just to check for any permissions errors, but didn't seem to report any.

rMBP 2

- Installation didn't have the same issue as rMBP 1, believe that's because the display was set at pure retina before starting the installation.

- Mail smart folders were retained on this computer.

Overall it seems like a pretty solid release (obviously this may change across the betas), all the apps I use regularly work well so far.

The new font on the fourms (San Francisco?) looks terrible on my external screen, but great on the built in retina display. The new San Francisco font throughout the interface looks really good on both though.

Seems pretty nice, except Java 6 is broken or missing and I can't reinstall it. Error below:

"Java for OS X 2014-001 can't be installed on this disk. A newer version of this package is already installed."

First install impressions?
