same issue. no sound through type-c on MacBook Pro 16 2019 after updating to Big Sur 11.4. monitor vendor: Dell
Same issue with MacBook Pro 16-inch 2019 version 11.5.1 - Dell monitor.
please fix asap
I wonder if this is an issue isolated to Dell monitors. I recently purchased a Philips 346B1C monitor and the audio passthrough is working fine on that.

Interesting as I'm having issues with a Philips 346P (Philips Brilliance 346P1CRH). It was working fine before Big Sur, but after the update it is no longer working.
Sound preferences - Output Name: PHL 346P1C Type: DisplayPort Settings for the selected device: The selected device has no output controls Output volum: Max (disabled) Mute: disabled Show volume in menu bar: true
My monitor is an LG 27GL850 27'' UltraGear.
I see the same issue is still continue on macOS 11.5.2 on MPB 16inch 2019. My monitor is DELL P2415Q and thunderbolt 3 dock is HP Thunderbolt Dock 120W G2. This occurs on only 16inc MBP15 2019, others like macbook 15inch 2018 or macbook 13inch 2017 can play audio via display port + thunderbolt3 dock.
Same issue, DELL U2717D. Only problematic on 2019 16" MBP. Works fine on a 2017 15" MBP.
Same issue. Selecting monitor as audio output device works fines (no errors in UI, no obvious errors in logs), but display receives no audio.
MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) DELL P2715Q
Problem occurs with direct connection (USB-C to MiniDisplayPort) and when connected via CalDigit TB 3 hub (USB-C to Hub to DisplayPort).
This was working earlier this year, but stopped after a system software update.
It was working fine before Big Sur, stayed broken with Big Sur, anyone tested with the latest update?
Philips Brilliance 346P1CRH detected as PHL 346P1C. Connected from MBP 2019 to the display with a short official Apple thunderbolt cable.
Not that it is detected as an audio output device and everything else is working fine (100Hz etc.), but it is showing "The selected device has no output controls".
