Our prank calling app got rejected because of this reason given by Apple Review team:
“Guideline 1.1.6 - Safety - Objectionable Content
Your app allows users to anonymously call and text people or wrongly identifies the individual calling or texting, which is not appropriate for the App Store. We recognize that users can choose to hide their caller ID in the iPhone Settings, but this does not invalidate the guideline requirement that apps should not enable anonymous calling or SMS/MMS messaging.
The next submission of this app may require a longer review time, and this app will not be eligible for an expedited review until this issue is resolved.”
The Apple Review team is referring to this guidelines specifically:
“1.1.6 False information and features, including inaccurate device data or trick/joke functionality, such as fake location trackers. Stating that the app is “for entertainment purposes” won’t overcome this guideline. Apps that enable anonymous or prank phone calls or SMS/MMS messaging will be rejected.”
From the guideline above, was our app submission rejected because of the “anonymous calling” or the “prank calling capability”? If we allowed prank calling without anonymity (meaning the user will have to use his verified Caller ID), would that be acceptable within Apple’s guidelines?
I would appreciate if anyone can help us clarifying these points
thank you
