iOS 14.2- iMessage read receipt sent before the message was viewed.

I recently updated to iOS 14.2 and ever since my phones iMessage has been glitching. I have the iPhone XR so it’s not that it’s a particularly old phone... however I no longer get notifications when I get iMessages. My phone also opens messages before I’ve seen them...
to explain, it’ll send a read receipt before I’ve actually seen the message, and thus, “reads the message” so I get no notification. It’s hard to explain but my contacts are being told I’ve read their message- when I haven’t. I’ve tried restarting my phone and it keeps happening. Anyone got any tips? Or is this an IOS glitch?

I have the same problem on my iPhone 12 mini and my gf's XS, so I can confirm it's not your iPhone.
From time to time the text doesn't get even delivered (with no reason at all, since the iPhone is connected to Wi-fi and whatsapp/telegram work smoothly), while sometimes it's delivered and instantly read by itself.
We tried to deactivate and reactivate iMessage and then reset our network settings, nothing. It must be an iOS 14 bug, hope they will fix it with the next update.

I have an iPhone 11 and this bug happens for me as well. Me and my bf both have read on and it will automatically say I’ve read the message after he sends it.
