macOS Big Sur Beta 11.3 Popping sound issue came back

Anyone else experienced the piping sounds when scrolling through a video (QuickTime, VLC Player, Safari, etc)

How they will fix it again.

Updated to Big Sur 11.5.1 today and the popping is still there, its so frustrating on a $3000 plus laptop to have this issue, and Apple acts like your the only person who has this issue, even though its pretty common... no fix still....

Hi There,

My laptop is an 16 inch model with i9 and I have this issue since the very first minute I bought the laptop....all big sur versions...11.1, 11.2, 11.3, 11.4, 11.5, 11.5.1.....unfortunately

Is a shame that a 3k laptop has this problem and apple do not assume it...I already phone them 5 times....they say is a software problem and don't give a solution..

Regards,

I have noticed Audio on my iMac (27-inch 2020) Big Sur (now up to 11.6 and below) has produced audio popping and distortion noises occasionally. When the system gets into this state Skype just hangs , and forcequitting and restarting it just brings it back to a point where it hangs upon needing to use audio. killall -9 coreaudiod resolves the issue of Skype hanging, and the audio issues.

I am not using bluetooth , nor external speakers, but the issue does tend to manifest after playing world of tanks, not sure if this is triggering the problem or suffering from the same problem brought on from somewhere else.

I have the same problem. Happens mostly when I am scrolling on pages with videos, e.g., Facebook or YouTube. But sometimes it just makes a pop sound when I'm not doing anything. Running Big Sur 11.6 on an M1 MacMini. Annoying. I also am using an audio interface - perhaps that is part of the problem.

Hi, same issue with macOS Monterey 12.2, m1 pro 14 base model :(

I am on an imac Pro 2017, running Big Sur 11.6.2. I had this problem as well -audio crackling, skipping, dropping out across all apps -Netflix, Quicktime, Premiere Pro, Youtube, etc.

I quit coreaudio hundreds of times. I quit all other processes, restarted. Activity monitor would show 3% of CPU usage and the audio problems were still happening. I've lived with this problem for YEARS.

Today, I was incredibly frustrated, trying to QC a video for a festival but unable to get clean audio. Finally, I realized that I don't need the three RAID arrays that I have had constantly running, turned off two of them.

Voila, problem solved!

For what it's worth, I believe it was my StarTech RAID that was causing the problem. I also have 2 OWC raids. Clearly this isn't a solution if you need to keep those raids plugged in. But it's definitely worth a try if you are being driven insane and nothing else is working. Hope this helps.

Check my solutions here : https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/708608?login=true It works 100% for me. It seems to be :

  • 100% software related
  • due to some Intel/Universel apps (example : the third party app Magnet was a big trouble maker)
