• compile code inb Xcode
• then app is launched by Xcode

Or do you do something different ?

Did you check the project Signing & Capabilities ?

An error for:

Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGKILL (Code Signature Invalid)) Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000 Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY Termination Reason: CODESIGNING 1

Typically means that your signature is either damaged or there is an issue between the entitlements that are used in your signature and the entitlements that are used on your provisioning profile. Now, these issues typically show up when a macOS app is run on a machine idenpendent from Xcode. However, in this case it looks like you are running this app directly from Xcode, so let's dig into this a bit further from that context. The part that is curious to me about your logs is this:

Identifier: app.pinstation.pinstationapp Version: 1 Code Type: X86-64 (Native) "cpuType" : "X86-64"

And then your crash log states:

Thread 0 crashed with ARM Thread State (64-bit): x0

It looks like you are using a x86-64 Intel machine but the crash log is stating that Xcode is trying to run the ARM slice of your app? Which way is it here?

Hi, I'm facing similar, if not the exact same issue with my app. In my case it seems to happen as soon as I try to add the keychain sharing entitlement to the project. I get a successful build but a crash on launch. This only happens when trying to build and run as a catalyst app for Mac. Building and running for iOS works. Also my teammates with Intel based Macs are unaffected and able to build/run for Catalyst. To try and isolate things I've created a brand new test app.

Environment:

• MacBook Pro M1 Max
• macOS 12.5
• Xcode 13.4.1
• Apple developer member and team

Project Setup:

• Brand new project (File > New > Project > App)
• Team set to my company, signing cert set to me
• Automatically manage signing checked (Xcode managed profile)
• Mac Catalyst Checked (Target > General > Mac Catalyst Checked > Scale Interface to Match iPad)
• Build Target > My Mac (Catalyst)

If I build and run from Xcode at this point everything works fine- the app builds and launches as a catalyst app on my Mac.

Then I try and add the keychain sharing entitlement:

• Target > Signing & Capabilities > Add Keychain Sharing > Add Keychain Groups > set to the bundle identifier

At this point if I try and build & run the app for catalyst (Target > My Mac (Catalyst)) it builds properly but fails to launch. I get the "Build Successful" message then a dialog that says " could not launch, the launcher has returned an error" (see the logs below).

Interestingly, if I try and run for Rosetta (Target > My Mac (Rosetta)) I get the same failure to run, but it also crashes and throws a log into the console that looks very similar to the one above- specifically the code sign error and the x86-64 reference which is confusing as I'm on an M1 Mac.

Any insight into this would be helpful as I'm not familiar with building Mac or catalyst apps. My experience thus far has been iOS only.

That’s almost certainly a trusted execution problem. I recently wrote up a bunch of info on how to debug those. See Resolving Trusted Execution Problems.

To try and isolate things I've created a brand new test app.

That’s always a good idea.

The weird thing there is that I went through those steps myself and didn’t see the problem. The resulting Mac Catalyst apps runs just fine. I’m on Intel, rather than Apple silicon, but that shouldn’t matter in this case [1].
