According to the specifications and MDN after loading page in new tab history length should be 1 (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/History/length).
Whereas when clicking link with target=_blank in Safari the history.length on new page returns 2.

Can you see what's in the history?
So, actually it's not possible, there is not way to inspects previous history entries. But when you call history.back -- it navigates you to the tab you came from. But that's not the behaviour defined in specs. In all other browsers history.back does nothing in that case
