I am using time machine backup as a double protection other than iCloud. Are the above warnings will affect my data integrity in the future ? If so what should I do to get rid all of those warnings.

I can still use my M1 Macbook Air without any issues so far. But I worry this warnings will create further damage in the future.

Thank you guys.

Getting the exact same thing here on a 2019 MacBook pro running Sonoma 14.0. I've tried running from Recovery as well, and it's the same result, I get those 2 warnings for descendants of dir-stats object is greater than expected, and physical_size of dir-stats object is greater than expected. No error stating that the repair failed or anything, but it persists across each run.

Reason I tried running it in the first place is ever since upgrading to Sonoma, I have been unable to complete a Time Machine backup. It churns away for a few hours, looking like it's making progress, but eventually fails, and from the logs, I believe it's trying to back up or enumerate a directory that does not exist (~/Library/Mail/V4).

So far, yours is the only post I've seen anywhere on the internet with the same exact error I'm receiving.

Hi .. I ended up clean install my Macbook air and retrieve local files manually from time machine external HD. Lucky to keep all my important work data on iCloud , saving time to organize them.

I saw at the other section of this forum mentioning that Time Machine will copy anything which includes damage files structure .. so initial back up is crucial . Make sure to verify and repair everything before performing initial back up. Otherwise Time Machine will keep corrupt or damage files forever and ever ..

Still moving local files, from time machine HD until today adjusting system settings, checking all apps and redownload them ... will start fresh initial time machine back up once all is set.

I am getting the same warnings in Sonoma 14.5 using Disk Utility and in recovery mode. TechTool 19 does not show any errors when running Volume Structures. Any ideas? Not having any problems as far as I can tell. Ran it just to check after upgrading from Ventura.

Checking the fsroot tree. warning: physical_size (54..) of dir-stats object (id 14..) is greater than expected (0) The volume was found to be corrupt and needs to be repaired. Performing deferred repairs. The volume appears to be OK.
