Xcode Playgrounds + Xcode 15

We are in class working with Develop in Swift Explorations.

We created a new playground file to create a learning playground for notes and exercises and since the update to Xcode 15, it is running extremely sluggish and slow.

Playground file is build for iOS and using Simulator for iPhone 15. We also tried to run for Mac and same issues.

In addition, the Macbook Air M2s are running VERY hot - which is unusual.

Which version of Xcode ?

What configuration ? But MacBookAir M2 should not have problems of performance.

You could try to reinstall Xcode. That's not the normal behavior.

Xcode 15

Macbook Air M2 with 8gb and 512gb. Brand new machines with nothing installed but Xcode.

We have ran classes with the M2s, no issues like this until the Xcode 15 and Sonoma updates...

8 GB may be a bit short now with Xcode 15.

Did you check in Activity Monitor how much processor and memory is used ? Memory pressure may be a good indicator to look at. What do you get ?

Attached!

  • Memory pressure is relatively high. And you have a large Swap 4 GB). In my example it was 0 GB.

That could well be the cause of the problem. Unfortunately it is not possible to expand memory on M processors…

  • Thank you for your help. This is very disappointing and troublesome considering we have had no issues prior to these updates with hundreds of other Mac Airs that were M1s.
