Xcode Crashes When Trying to Modify Bundle Identifier

I’m currently developing an iOS application and I’ve encountered an issue with Xcode. Whenever I try to modify the Bundle Identifier of my application, Xcode crashes. The crash happens specifically when I click on the “Signing” option after changing the Bundle Identifier.

Here’s the error message I get: “The app identifier ‘com.BikeTest.BikeRoute’ cannot be registered to your development team because it is not available. Change your bundle identifier to a unique string to try again.”

Then I changed ‘com.BikeTest.BikeRoute’ to 'com.wuwuma.BikePowerRoute',and xcode crashed.

I don’t have a paid Apple Developer account, and I’m wondering if this could be causing the issue. However, I believe I should still be able to modify the Bundle Identifier without Xcode crashing.

I’ve tried restarting Xcode and my computer, but the issue persists. I’m using Xcode version 15.2 on macOS 14.3.1.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Obviously Xcode should not crash, and I encourage you to file a bug about the crash you’re seeing. Please post your bug number, just for the record.

Given that, why do you need to change the bundle ID? When you’re using a Personal Team, your distribution options are sufficiently limited that the exact bundle ID you use is unlikely to be important.

Changing the budle ID still crashes Xcode, and every other developer as well.

It happens on new projects, old projects, everything. Very basic QA that is failing...

It's impacting projects on Vision Pro, because we cant rollback to old versions of Xcode.

Did you file a bug about this? If so, what was the bug number?

For context, I use release versions of Xcode and macOS, just like you folks, and I’ve never had Xcode crash when I change an app’s bundle ID. I just retested this today (Xcode 15.3 on macOS 14.4) and it worked as expected.

Which isn’t denying that this is a problem, just that it’s not that simple.

When Xcode crashes the system should generate a crash report. Please post an example of that. See Posting a Crash Report for advice on how to do that.
