App Store Connect

I am really struggling with registering my app in App Store Connect. I find the system to be complicated an unhelpful. I have two issues with my app.

  1. I can see the builds that I have uploaded from Xcode when I select "Add Build" from the "IOS App" page. But for some reason, I cannot select a build - as there is no error message or guide as to why I can't select the build, I am asking here.

  2. I have created a Subscription Group for my app in MONETIZATION -> Subscriptions. I have created the Reference Name and Product-Id. It has been saved. App Store Connect tells me there is Missing Metadata but once more gives me no clue as to what is missing and how to correct it. As far as I can see I have completed everything needed for the Subscription Group/Product.

  3. I would like to add a Trial Period to my subscription but I cannot see anywhere to do this.

The UI for Apps Store Connect is terrible - I would expect errors to be flagged and some suggestions given as to why the error exists - nothing!

Is there a helpful (and understandable) guide I could use for setting up the App and any suggestions from the forum as to what I need to do to get my app ready for review and testing in Test Flight.

Thanks!

  1. "But for some reason, I cannot select a build" - Why not? What is stopping you? What happens when you click the plus button and the popup appears with the various builds listed? You're telling us you cannot select a build "for some reason", but you don't tell us what's actually happening, so we can't actually help you.

  2. Have you added the translations? I think it requires at least one translation, even if it's just English. I think that's in the "App Store Localizations" bit.

  3. Take a look at the Help pages: https://developer.apple.com/help/app-store-connect/ There is a section on Managing Subscriptions.

  1. On the App Distribution tab, when I submit for approval, I get an error requiring me to choose a build. When I select Add Build, I get the window with all my uploaded builds but I cannot select them, the radio buttons are disabled.
  2. Good point, I have added translations (nothing suggested they were mandatory) and that has reduced the error list of things preventing me from submitting for approval.
  3. I think I may need my subscription to be approved before I add in a trial period, so need to solve point 1 above first.

On app versions, is there an enforced sequence? I am trying to test Version 3.0 of my app in Test Flight, I uploaded a bundle from Xcode with Version 3.0 but thought that might be the issue so expired it and created a 1.0 bundle. So the build options to select are 1.0 that I want to test, but 3.0 is also in the list.

It seems that the problem was caused by me having versions our of synch. My app was on version 1.0 but and my build on Version 1.0 however (due to some confusion on my part) expired builds for version 2.0 and 3.0 still existed. I resolved by defining the app as version 4.0 in appstore and rebuilt a version 4.0 in xcode. Important to have versions in synch. My gripe with the extremely poor user interface on Appstore Connect continues - you would have thought I'd get an error or warning message for this - it seems easy enough - but nothing. Very frustrating.
