Restore from iTunes backup not working (beta 3)

After choosing to "Restore" using beta 3, I cannot restore my backup from iTunes. It goes through the whole restore process which takes about 8 minutes and then at the very end it says there is an error restoring. The iPhone then restarts and gets stuck in the new setup process. In iTunes, it appears that my data is there since I see it all in the storage blocks but I cannot access anything.

I'm currently in the process of restoring it again from scratch and going to try to restore my backup through iCloud instead.

Has anyone else seen this?

I got the resolution. I wrote just yesterday, because the problem form me was in beta 2 also.

In the iTunes log I found the error, it is in homekit. The solution is:

1: get and backup your backupfile

2. get a third-party app you can manage the backup files (I don't want to pubblicize anyone, but search someone free that end in "...bot")

3. Remove Homekit dir from the backup

4. Restore

This was successufull for me.

I hope this can help you.

Bye,

Andrea

to clarify, my backup was from beta 2. I am also running OSX El Capitan beta 3 with the latest iTunes.

restore from iCloud not working either...

Oh man, I hope not.. Mine is saying it's got 1 hour remaining. Restoring in iTunes from an Encrypted Backup failed with no specific error.

My iTunes backup was encrypted as well... I tried it twice and it failed both times.

I've got about 33 minutes (so it says) until my restore from iCloud finishes.. I'll post an update then.

I do remember seeing in the release notes that there can be issues if the device locks during a restore? I'm just sitting here staring and tapping my phone when the screen dims..

I can't even get a time estimate. After 20 minutes, it still says estimating...

I'm trying to do the same by tapping on the screen. Come to think of it, the times it has failed are when the screen has locked. I'm trying again for a third time but I'm going to try and keep a closer eye on it to make sure it doesn't lock.

Just noticed that XCode beta 3 is out now. I'm curious if the problems restoring from iTunes are a driver thing that XCode beta 3 might resolve?

not allowing my iPhone's screen to lock during restore still did not work. I got an error as well.

So far so good with the Restore from iCloud. My Apps are installing now and it looks like my Health Data was restored, too! Score!

Same problem for me! Tried restoring 3 times each time it went through the whole restore and at the very end it pops up and says it failed. iCloud restored fine, but, during the end of the restore on the device an alert came up saying the same thing, some apps failed to restore. Seems that I have lost all of my app data... lame... going to hope that there is some way to fix the computer restore and go back to that when a fix is out but for now it would seem I am SOL

Anyone have any luck?

Still no luck for me. I even tried to go back to beta 2 but it's still not working. iCloud restore won't even work for me. Not sure what's going on.

yea my iCloud restore worked in that my homescreen is the same and my photos and messages came back, but, no 3rd party app data at all. the backup on my computer will back up for 15 min then fail, then, sync all the apps but the home screen is different, there are no messages restored or photos, and none of my cached settings are back to what they were.

PROBLEM... BIG PROBLEM

iCloud restore worked but it took a really long to,e to get past the initial progress bar. Restoring from the computer didn't.

Likewise same problem, twice. Like others, I have a password encypted backup. I also have a SIM card that is pin lock protected.

On the first occasion, it caused my OS 10.10.4 machine to actually kernel panic when it failed—something I've not seen on that machine in a long long time. Nothing beta running on that machine (Xcode 7 beta 2 installed, not running at the time).

This third restore from backup attempt, I completed the "Set up the device" steps before initiating the restore from backup. Likewise apparently reached the end, but then failed.

Turning off SIM card lock, signing out of the Apple ID, turning off passcode lock and touch ID unlocking, and restarting the phone—did not result in the restore from backup working.
