Restore from iTunes backup not working (beta 3)

After choosing to "Restore" using beta 3, I cannot restore my backup from iTunes. It goes through the whole restore process which takes about 8 minutes and then at the very end it says there is an error restoring. The iPhone then restarts and gets stuck in the new setup process. In iTunes, it appears that my data is there since I see it all in the storage blocks but I cannot access anything.


I'm currently in the process of restoring it again from scratch and going to try to restore my backup through iCloud instead.


Has anyone else seen this?

I got the resolution. I wrote just yesterday, because the problem form me was in beta 2 also.

In the iTunes log I found the error, it is in homekit. The solution is:


1: get and backup your backupfile

2. get a third-party app you can manage the backup files (I don't want to pubblicize anyone, but search someone free that end in "...bot")

3. Remove Homekit dir from the backup

4. Restore


This was successufull for me.

This might not be factoring in, but what kind of iPhone are you using? I'm seeing the same problem, restoring from an iTunes backup made in beta 2, going to beta 3. (iPhone 5s on iOS 9 beta 2, OS X El Cap, encrypted iTunes backup). Going back to beta 2 didn't seem to help either.

iPhone 6, was on beta 2 with a full backup both in iTunes 12.2 (encrypted) and iCloud. I am running OS X El Cap beta 3.


It seems that something is crashing at the very end of the restore process, possibly when trying to decrypt the data? That's my best guess. I just filed a radar and attached the crash logs that seemed to correspond to the exact timing of when it fails.

iPhone 5S on Beta 2. I backed it up on iTunes 12.2 and restored it after installing Beta 3 just fine. Major difference from you guys was I am on Yosemite. Try to find a Yosemite and restore from there and see if that helps.

I'll try it and report back to let you know if it worked. I'm going to do a fresh install of Yosemite on an old iMac and get it up to date with iTunes before I try.

UPDATE:

After failing twice at the end of a 30 minute restore attempt, I just restarted my phone and restarted iTunes. I plugged in my phone and it is now syncing as if the restore did actually work. Currently syncing apps.


So apparently the restore did work after all?

I restored from OTA, phone froze on load screen with progess bar. Preformed failed DFU mode entry.(releasing home button instead of power button). Phone rebooted, immediately loaded, and is now working fine with 9.3.. Hope this helps. Let me know what else happens.

I am trying to restore from a backup I made and it also isn't working. I have pictures that weren't uploaded to iCloud yet so I neeeeeed to get them through the backup.

UPDATE 2:

So when I plug my iPhone in, iTunes sees it as my phone, has synced all apps, data, etc... but my phone itself is still acting like it needs to be set up.

I have the same issue with my iPhone 5S and restore via iTunes. I ended up going back to 8.4 so I did not loose all my data so just down a months worth, very annoying
