Restore from iTunes backup not working (beta 3)

After choosing to "Restore" using beta 3, I cannot restore my backup from iTunes. It goes through the whole restore process which takes about 8 minutes and then at the very end it says there is an error restoring. The iPhone then restarts and gets stuck in the new setup process. In iTunes, it appears that my data is there since I see it all in the storage blocks but I cannot access anything.

I'm currently in the process of restoring it again from scratch and going to try to restore my backup through iCloud instead.

Has anyone else seen this?

I got the resolution. I wrote just yesterday, because the problem form me was in beta 2 also.

In the iTunes log I found the error, it is in homekit. The solution is:

1: get and backup your backupfile

2. get a third-party app you can manage the backup files (I don't want to pubblicize anyone, but search someone free that end in "...bot")

3. Remove Homekit dir from the backup

4. Restore

This was successufull for me.

I hope this can help you.

Bye,

Andrea

I've tried that numerous times but I keep getting the same error after about 20-30 minutes of "Restoring settings...", then it just kicks me back to the list of iCloud backups.

let us know if that works!! still trying to figure it out myself over here!

Just to cover our bases, is anyone here experiencing the iTunes error when trying to restore with a non-encrypted iTunes backup?

Didnt work again :/ restarted phone and computer and now waiting. 15 minutes remaining.

ddidn't work. So frustrated! I need my pictures back. Ugh.

No, this did not resolve the issues for two phones at this location in the same situation—an iPhone 6 and and iPhone 6 Plus, on separate accounts and computers.

This is exactly the same issue I'm having. After iTunes fails at restoring, it seems like either the phone itself or just springboard reloads and puts you into the new device setup. However, leaving it still plugged in, iTunes seems like the data is there because you can see it on the data graph at the bottom.

same here. however, it still forces you to go through the restore through icloud or treat as a new device. whats even funnier is that iTunes will sync the apps, but, none of the apps have any data, AND none of my settings are restored.

BIZARRE!

Comon apple help us out! hear our cries!

I have the same problem. Pretends to restore all the way to the end and then says there is an error in restoring. I can then sync my apps across but all my data is gone. I imported my photos into Aperture before I did this so my photos are safe. Rest of the data is in iCloud so they will restore but a it is a pain to set up everything again. My backup is also encrypted in iTunes (v12.2.0.145) and iOS 9 beta 3 on Yosemite (10.10.4).

After four to five unsuccessful restores, trying lots of combinations with a local encrypted backup, I have had a successful restore from an iCloud backup. It is possible the success was due to it being from iCloud, but during the restore process I also turned off two factor authentication on my Apple ID via the AppleID web maintenance.

Given iOS 9 beta 3 specifically mentions changes in two factor authentication, it seems highly likely the latter fixed the problem. And we're just about to check this, as we have another phone here with the same problem, and only a local encrypted backup.

Turn off your two factor authentication at https://appleid.apple.com

UPDATE:

The second iPhone at this location did not restore successfully with a local encrypted backup once two factor authentication was turned off... so if that is part of the solution, it's only part of it. Looks therefore like the iCloud backup may have been an important part of the solution here. Not sure what this means for people who only have a local backup, and are encontering this issue.

I don't beleive I have two factor authentication on and I have a local backup. Not working. Talking online with Apple now.

Tried all the things mentioned here in the forum. Nothing works at all.

Still stuck and freezed in the sliding for upgrade screen.

I guess Apple has to upload a fixed beta...hopefully soon!

😟

Same problem here, on iPhone 6. Tried from iTunes and form iCloud. Will now try to switch off the 2 factor auth as suggested...

I've tried all sorts of combinations of restoring in iTunes, on different computers with different OS's (Yosemite & El Cap beta) (copied my iTunes backup files over), initiating the iTunes restore from different places during the process, etc.

When I saw your post here about disabling two-factor I got all excited thinking this might finally be it, but no dice for me. I give up for now. I'll have to live without my phone until there is a more concrete solution or Apple releases an updated build.

It seems like there is some point in the process where some things start to crash and after all my tests, it's very consistant in the crash logs. I have filed a radar and attached nearly 20 crash logs so hopefully they will comb through them and get it sorted out.

I think there may be a problem with earlier beta backups. I have successfully restored a backup from before beta 1 after updating to beta 3.
