Restore from iTunes backup not working (beta 3)

After choosing to "Restore" using beta 3, I cannot restore my backup from iTunes. It goes through the whole restore process which takes about 8 minutes and then at the very end it says there is an error restoring. The iPhone then restarts and gets stuck in the new setup process. In iTunes, it appears that my data is there since I see it all in the storage blocks but I cannot access anything.

I'm currently in the process of restoring it again from scratch and going to try to restore my backup through iCloud instead.

Has anyone else seen this?

I got the resolution. I wrote just yesterday, because the problem form me was in beta 2 also.

In the iTunes log I found the error, it is in homekit. The solution is:

1: get and backup your backupfile

2. get a third-party app you can manage the backup files (I don't want to pubblicize anyone, but search someone free that end in "...bot")

3. Remove Homekit dir from the backup

4. Restore

This was successufull for me.

I hope this can help you.

Bye,

I now tried to restore from iCloud after switching of 2 setp auth, and it still fails.

This has done for me, finally. Thanks.

And this worked for me as well.

YES.

This appears to have worked for me, too. THANK YOU.

Did it for me too, thank you.

You were able to modify an encrypted backup?

Yes, with password 🙂

There are third party apps that can manage encrypted backup files? (I also just noticed these forums don't have a DM system.)

Wow, this worked! Thank you very much!

Could someone tell me how they successfully accessed their encrypted backup? I think I'm using the software that aferrini is implying, but want to make sure what everyone else is doing. If we need to take the conversation offline, I'm also reachable at chimerical@berkeley.edu. Thanks!

I simply opened the application that aferrini is implying, navigated to my device's backups in the upper left. I know it's encrypted because I see a lock icon over the icon. I was never prompted for my password.

I clicked on the tree to expand and then on the "System" folder. See here:

then, in the right column of the app, I found a foldered called "HomeKitDomain". I simply deleted this folder and all of it's contents.

After this, I quit the app, returned to iTunes and did another fresh restore of beta 3 to my device. Once the device finished restoring the OS, I was able to select my old backup to restore (like usual) and it worked successfully this time.

This worked and I got my pictures back thank you very much! After going through it all though I am still stuck on a second slide to upgrade screen. Any help with that?

This also worked for me, thanks!

I didn"t restore at all. Did it with full battery, not connected to PC at all (eliminate Out of date iTunes, firewall, software ect,) from interfering. Failed DFU was the only way I coud come up with to restart the boot sequence. Restoring from backup without the device evn loading the kernel yet I thought would cause problems. IDK, it worked, I am happy, this firmware seems to be happy so far.. We will see. iPhone 6 plus on PC with Windows 10.
