Same problem.....

Tried deleting com.apple.mail container folder but still the same issue 😟

I've had one crash up front but it's been working for me for the last 3 hours with various IMAP accounts and one Exchange account.

Press shift+cmd+g from Finder and copy-paste the following: ~/Library/Mail/V3/MailData

Move these files to the Desktop:

•Envelope Index

•ExternalUpdates.storedata

Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.

Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.

Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop.

Tried exactly that,

Didn't work. 😟

Since the surgical approach didn't work, you could try the nuclear approach: Delete everything from inside the mail folder, remove the account from System Preferences > Internet Accounts, reboot, and re-add the account.

tried that but same result....i am actually getting incoming messages (number icon in the mail icon) and notification shows them....i can also compose and send a new message....just don't get the main window....

The main window got stuck for me in some inaccessible full-screen space in Yosemite recently. I reclaimed it with the conrol+cmd+f key-comibination. I doubt that's the issue here (which, in your case, seems like a really odd one!), but might be worth a try...

Also, if you haven't already tried it, it's amazing how much odd window behaviour is fixed with a reboot 🙂

restart and such does not work....i am still getting the crash dialog when i start mail, but at least now it seems responisve, i just don't get the main window...

Actually, now that the dust has settled a bit, I can see that this is not an error specific to Mail at all. The problem is more basic to OS X and its handling of certain windows. I'd be interested to know what happens if you try to right-click on a file in a Finder window.

no problems there, am getting the usual menu

Hmmm... That's going to make it harder to pin down. The reason I asked will be obvious if you check your error log with the one in the this thread. I can only suggest reinstalling DP3 over itself for now. You can download the .pkg direct from Apple's CDN from the links in this thread:

re-installed and still the same issue...

Well thank you for eliminating that as a possible solution anyway. Without being able to reproduce the issue myself, it's hard to troubleshoot it.
