Local-only iOS Notifications
Hello! I'm currently trying to add local push notifications to my iOS app (React Native + Expo). Most of the guides and documentation I found online revolve around remote notification capabilities and APNS - I don't need this. The app will register a background task to periodically check if it should trigger a notification, fully local. I'm running into issues when adding the push notification capabilities, saying I need a new provisioning profile and to modify the App ID, which prompts me to set up certificates to communicate with APNS - which I don't need. So I was wondering: Is it possible to build an app without the remote notification setup that can still trigger local notifications? Or is it kind of all-or-nothing, and I need to set up remote notifications as well even if I only need to trigger them locally? Couldn't really find much online about this, and before I invalidate my current certificates and go through a bunch of redundant setup, I thought I'd ask here. Help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Regarding the change of device tokens after an iOS update
In the app we are developing, we update the device token upon app launch using didRegisterForRemoteNotificationsWithDeviceToken. Previously, after an iOS major update, if the app was left without being launched, users experienced an issue where notifications would not be received. Later, we confirmed that running didRegisterForRemoteNotificationsWithDeviceToken during app launch updates the device token and restores the ability to receive notifications. Therefore, we believe that the device token may change due to an iOS major update. We want to understand the detailed conditions under which the device token is updated due to an iOS update: Does the same issue occur after iOS minor updates as well? Does it always happen during iOS major updates? We reviewed the official documentation, but there was no detailed description of the device token update conditions. Additionally, we contacted Apple, but received no clear answers. If anyone has experienced the same situation, we would appreciate any information you can share.

Silent Push notifications XCode 16.3 stop working on production
Hello, we have recently started signing and building our applications using Xcode 16.3. Since we made this change, we’ve noticed that the applications have stopped receiving silent push notifications (content-available: 1) when they are distributed via TestFlight or the App Store, even though we haven’t changed anything in the way these notifications are sent. As I mentioned, this started happening after migrating our project from Xcode 15 to Xcode 16.3. Regular push notifications are still working as expected, but silent ones are not being received by the apps. We are desperate because we rely on these silent notifications to inform the apps of updates, and we haven’t been able to identify the root cause of the issue.

How to Enable com.apple.developer.pushkit.unrestricted-voip Entitlement for Production App?
We are developing a walkie-talkie style iOS app using CallKit and PushKit for real-time voice communication. The app is intended for internal company use and requires unrestricted VoIP push capabilities to reliably deliver incoming call alerts, even in background or locked states. Our app's use case follows Apple’s guidelines, and we are not using PushKit for messaging or background data. We have already enabled "Push Notifications" in Capabilities and confirmed the provisioning profile, but are unable to enable com.apple.developer.pushkit.unrestricted-voip. Could someone from Apple or the community advise on the current process to request this entitlement for a production app? Should I prepare to Apple renewal of APNs USERTrust RSA Certification Authority certificate?
On apple dev site in the news section here you can find two announcements about their renewal of: USERTrust RSA Certification Authority certificate. Context: now, I have an app delivered via in-house distribution due to Apple developer Enterprise program. My app uses push notifications, but we are using auth tokens. Should I do something on the app? Should I advice backend colleague to check or do something server-side? below you can find the two announcements: sanbox link APNs Certificate Update Begins January 20, 2025 The Apple Push Notification service (APNs) will be updated with a new server certificate in sandbox on January 20, 2025. Update your application’s Trust Store to include the new server certificate: SHA-2 Root : USERTrust RSA Certification Authority certificate. and production link APNs Certificate Update Begins February 24, 2025 The Apple Push Notification service (APNs) will be updated with a new server certificate in production on February 24, 2025. Update your application’s Trust Store to include the new server certificate: SHA-2 Root : USERTrust RSA Certification Authority certificate.

Critical Messages Allow messages to
I am creating an app that uses critical messages, I have been granted this entitlement and I am adding the certificate and in the info.plist. In the app I request authorization to send messages to specific numbers. When I try the app in production from Xcode this works fine and I can send the critical messages. However, when I am using the app in the test flight the authorization does not seem to be remembered on the background. Moreover, I go to security/privacy settings and I grant permission to the selected number (I see that it only shows one number even when I have to granted, its like it removes the previous one) however when I exit the setting page the permission is reset (and therefore denied), I think this is a bug. Can you look into that. Both this removing granted permission (HIGH PRIORITY, this message can only be sent in the background, therefore the user can not grant it and why the maximum telephone number to be granted to send messages is reset also to a single one LOWER PRIORITY). Thanks

How to implement Dynamic QR Code passes for apple wallet?
I want to create passes with Dynamic QR Codes which changes based on T-OTP. Google wallet do have this feature called RotatingBarCode, while there is nothing like this in Apple wallet. Can we do this by updating the passes? If yes, how? If apple wallet pass are getting updates using webServiceURL, how can we create the endpoint and what the body of get request will look like?

Do I need to update the certificate of the APNs?
Currently, our provider server uses token-based authentication with APNs. In addition, to establish a connection with APNs, we have installed the "AAACertificateServices 5/12/2020" certificate from the "Sectigo KnowledgeBase website" on the provider server. Question 1 Do I need to update the server certificate of the Apple Push Notification Service at the following URL for the above provider server? URL https://developer.apple.com/jp/news/?id=09za8wzy Question 2 If registration is required, how long will it be valid for? Root certificate https://developer.apple.com/documentation/usernotifications/setting-up-a-remote-notification-server Token-based authentication https://developer.apple.com/documentation/usernotifications/establishing-a-token-based-connection-to-apns

Can Critical Alerts Play Sound Continuously Until User Interaction?
We are developing an app that receives push notifications (via Firebase) from configured IoT devices. It is essential that when a specific type of notification is received, a sound is played continuously until the user interacts with the notification. This behavior is crucial for alerting users to certain critical states of the IoT device. We understand that Critical Alerts on iOS can bypass Do Not Disturb and silent mode. However, from our testing and available documentation, the sound from a Critical Alert seems to be limited to around 30 seconds. Our question: Is it possible on iOS to have a Critical Alert (or any other type of notification) continue playing sound until the user interacts with the notification or app? If so, could someone please point us to the appropriate documentation or APIs? Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Silent push notifications not working on some iOS devices
I send APNs notifications to my devices with the CloudKit dashboard. I test with two devices; Device with Silent Push Working Successfully: iOS version 16.5.1 (c), Model iPhone Xs Silent Push Failed Device: iOS version 15.3.1, Model iPhone Xr Normal alert notifications work successfully on both devices. But I can't see any log in my project even though silent push is sent successfully on one device. What I've Checked: content-available is set to 1. My app is not in kill state, it is in foreground or pending in the background. When I send simple notifications, I can see logs in my swift project and notifications on physical devices without any problem. No, my certificate has not expired and if there was a problem with it, I would not be able to see the normal notifications. My phone is not in power saving mode and the “Background App Refresh” option is turned on in the app's settings. Both devices in charging state. App capabilities: Background Modes is enabled with Remote Notifications, Background Fetch, Background Processing. CloudKit Dashboard After Sending Silent Push: My AppDelegate Class In Swift Project: import SwiftUI import UIKit import UserNotifications class AppDelegate: UIResponder, UIApplicationDelegate { var window: UIWindow? func application(_ application: UIApplication, didFinishLaunchingWithOptions launchOptions: [UIApplication.LaunchOptionsKey: Any]?) -> Bool { UNUserNotificationCenter.current().requestAuthorization(options: [.alert, .sound, .badge]) { granted, error in if granted { DispatchQueue.main.async { UIApplication.shared.registerForRemoteNotifications() } } } return true } func application(_ application: UIApplication, didRegisterForRemoteNotificationsWithDeviceToken deviceToken: Data) { let tokenParts = deviceToken.map { data in String(format: "%02.2hhx", data) } let token = tokenParts.joined() print("Device Token: \(token)") } func application(_ application: UIApplication, didFailToRegisterForRemoteNotificationsWithError error: Error) { print("Failed to register: \(error)") } func application(_ application: UIApplication, didReceiveRemoteNotification userInfo: [AnyHashable: Any], fetchCompletionHandler completionHandler: @escaping (UIBackgroundFetchResult) -> Void) { logInfo("Received Push Notification: \(userInfo)") if let aps = userInfo["aps"] as? [String: AnyObject], aps["content-available"] as? Int == 1 { logInfo("This is a silent push notification") //DO SOME WORK completionHandler(.newData) } completionHandler(.newData) } }

Clarification about ANCS being unavailable
Hello, I am working on a project that involves using external device to connect over BLE with users iPhone. I would like to be able to notify users on our device about eg. incoming calls, messages etc. I have been succesfull in using ANCS to achieve that but I am a little worried around consistency of this solution, especially taking into account following line from documentation: Due to the nature of iOS, the ANCS is not guaranteed to always be present. As a result, the NC should look for and subscribe to the Service Changed characteristic of the GATT service in order to monitor for the potential publishing and unpublishing of the ANCS at any time. I have not been able (yet?) to find or identify circumstances when ANCS would not be avilable or would be "removed in runtime", hence would it be possible to request some guidance and clarification on the conditions when ANCS can be unavailable or removed? Thank you!

push notifications are not receiving to device
iOS push notification is not working for in App since 03-Apr-2025. We are pushing the message to APNS from our application, but message is not delivered to iOS device. We have performed tests on both PROD and QA environment and following are the observations: PROD successfully pushing the notification to APNS but not receiving the notification on iOS device (100% failure). QA received notification on iOS device always (100% success). Analyzed PROD notification server log at our end and we do not observe any error and it is showing successful also when message is pushed to APNS all the time. Need to check from APNS why push messages are not delivered to iOS devices. Validated the PROD APNS certificate at our end which we are using during call to APNS - it is valid till Oct 2025. Please suggest me any possible solution because I don't have any clue where it is failing and what to do

Push notification of server certificate updates for the service
Background: ① We initiate push notification requests by generating tokens using the p8 certificate. ② The lowest version of the server we use is Ubuntu 16.04, and the image is Alpine Linux 3.15. ③ Currently, the root certificate USERTrust_RSA_Certification_Authority.pem is default in the system and has the same MD5 value as the provided download file. The time for both is 2019. My questions: ① Which certificate should we download and add to the server's trust store, Root Certificates? ② Does the system we are using default include this certificate? ③ What operations are needed for this server certificate replacement?

iOS 18 - Push Notifications Not Working
We at Anywayanyday (Apple ID 424980622) utilize push notification technology for our users to enhance customer scenarios. Recently (after the launch of OS 18 update, end of September '24) we started to observe that our customers were not receiving notifications on devices with OS 18+. In their systems we see that sending a message via transport has been done, but no notifications are reaching the client. In the system it is visible that the device token is fresh and working. Could you please tell us what steps we should take to fix the functionality of push notifications? Thanks

APNs returning successful response for a token from an app that was uninstalled more than a month ago
We are observing an weird behaviour where a user uninstalled the app back in February (more than a month ago) but APNs is still accepting push notifications are returning success responses. We know that using APNs response codes for uninstall tracking is not reliable and that Apple will use fuzzy schedule to invalidate tokens. However, showing successful responses for month+ old tokens seems a bit misleading and results in wasted token processing for both us and Apple. Could you please confirm that invalidation (or fuzzy schedule) could take more than months to invalidate tokens on the APNs side? Is that expected or is this a bug somewhere?
