The issue is, I cannot auto acquire bluetooth keyboard focus in PHPickerViewController after enabling 'Full Keyboard Access' in my IPhone 14 with iOS version 18.3.1. The keyboard focus in PHPickerViewController will show, however, after I tapped on the blank space of the PHPickerViewController. How to make the focus on at the first place then?
I'm using UINavigationController and calling setNavigationBarHidden(true, animated: false). Then I use this controller to present PHPickerViewController using some configuration setup below.
self.configuration = PHPickerConfiguration()
configuration.filter = .any(of: filters)
configuration.selectionLimit = selectionLimit
if #available(iOS 15.0, *), allowOrdering {
configuration.selection = .ordered
}
configuration.preferredAssetRepresentationMode = .current
Finally I set the delegate to PHPickerViewController and call UINavigationController.present(PHPickerViewController, animated: true) to render it.
Also I notice animation showing in first video then disappear.

I have implemented a SwiftUI view containing a grid of TextField elements, where focus moves automatically to the next field upon input. This behavior works well on iOS 16 and 17, maintaining proper focus highlighting when keyboard full access is enabled.
However, in iOS 18 and above, the keyboard full access focus behaves differently. It always stays behind the actual focus state, causing a mismatch between the visually highlighted field and the active text input. This leads to usability issues, especially for users navigating with an external keyboard.
Below is the SwiftUI code for reference:
struct AutoFocusGridTextFieldsView: View {
private let fieldCount: Int
private let columns: Int
@State private var textFields: [String]
@FocusState private var focusedField: Int?
init(fieldCount: Int = 17, columns: Int = 5) {
self.fieldCount = fieldCount
self.columns = columns
_textFields = State(initialValue: Array(repeating: "", count: fieldCount))
}
var body: some View {
let rows = (fieldCount / columns) + (fieldCount % columns == 0 ? 0 : 1)
VStack(spacing: 10) {
ForEach(0..<rows, id: \.self) { row in
HStack(spacing: 10) {
ForEach(0..<columns, id: \.self) { col in
let index = row * columns + col
if index < fieldCount {
TextField("", text: $textFields[index])
.frame(width: 40, height: 40)
.multilineTextAlignment(.center)
.textFieldStyle(RoundedBorderTextFieldStyle())
.focused($focusedField, equals: index)
.onChange(of: textFields[index]) { newValue in
if newValue.count > 1 {
textFields[index] = String(newValue.prefix(1))
}
if !textFields[index].isEmpty {
moveToNextField(from: index)
}
}
}
}
}
}
}
.padding()
.onAppear {
focusedField = 0
}
}
private func moveToNextField(from index: Int) {
if index + 1 < fieldCount {
focusedField = index + 1
}
}
}
struct AutoFocusGridTextFieldsView_Previews: PreviewProvider {
static var previews: some View {
AutoFocusGridTextFieldsView(fieldCount: 10, columns: 5)
}
}
Has anyone else encountered this issue with FocusState in iOS 18?
I really do believe that this is a bug strictly connected to keyboard navigation since I experienced similar problem also on UIKit equivalent of the view.
Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I'm trying to include Apple's Personal Voice feature in an app I'm working on, but I want to use a button or toggle to request access, rather than firing the request on first launch. The problem is that, if AVSpeechSynthesizer is used during the same session, before Personal Voice is authorized, the app has to be restarted to use the feature.
Here is a basic example that demonstrates the issue on my iPhone (running 18.1 beta, but the issue was present at least in 18.0, maybe before):
import AVFoundation
import SwiftUI
struct TestView: View {
let synthesizer = AVSpeechSynthesizer()
@State private var personalVoices: [AVSpeechSynthesisVoice] = []
var body: some View {
VStack(spacing: 100) {
Text("Personal Voices Available: \(personalVoices.count)")
Button {
speakUtterance(string: "Hello, world!")
} label: {
Image(systemName: "hand.wave.fill")
.font(.system(size: 100))
}
Button("Fetch Personal Voices") {
Task { await fetchPersonalVoices() }
}
}
}
func fetchPersonalVoices() async {
AVSpeechSynthesizer.requestPersonalVoiceAuthorization() { status in
if status == .authorized {
personalVoices = AVSpeechSynthesisVoice.speechVoices().filter { $0.voiceTraits.contains(.isPersonalVoice) }
}
}
}
func speakUtterance(string: String) {
let utterance = AVSpeechUtterance(string: string)
if let voice = personalVoices.first {
utterance.voice = voice
} else {
utterance.voice = AVSpeechSynthesisVoice(language: Locale.preferredLanguages[0])
}
synthesizer.speak(utterance)
}
}
If you tap the hand symbol first (before authorizing Personal Voice), you'll probably notice that the Personal Voices Available number never increases. If you authorize Personal Voice before tapping the hand symbol, it should speak using your Personal Voice as expected.
The example code is mostly taken directly from this WWDC23 video (Personal Voice info begins around the 10-minute mark).
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
Note: Personal Voice can't be tested in Simulator. The code will need to be run on a physical device that has Personal Voice set up, to test.

When iOS screen reader reads the month "July" in its shorter version "Jul" its not reading it correctly as month, where as all other months name it reading it correctly in shorter version, so as a result all dates comes under that month when we display in front end and use a screen reader to read it then it will read out as number not date.
I have tried the longer version with the screen reader and then its reads correctly July as well.

I remember that Vision Pro's dwell control could previously be set to 0.1 seconds, but now it can't. Is there a way to adjust it?
Before 18.2 when we swipe email left, the sending address was visible. Now the first line of the email is visible.
So now to block scam/spoof mail we have to actually open the email, tap on the sender, then close email, then block.
Can we at least have an option to choose? The new set up is both cumbersome and time consuming.
I have a TextField and entered for example "sg?!". At the TextField I set the modifier speechAlwaysIncludesPunctuation(). But when I activate VoiceOver the content of TextField is reading. The special characters don't read out.
How can I fix this?
I m unable to connect CarPlay to Mercedes GLC 2024 with Apple 15PMX. Made all recommendations by Apple, renew the car's sw too. It didn't work despite I tried many times. Funny that my iPhone 11 connects flawlessly both with cord or wireless.
However my iPhone 15PMX does connect to any other cars too either with cable or wireless.
Is it a bug or a really inability?
Hello,
I had submitted a question to clarify which components have accessibility APIs that trigger haptics for VoiceOver users https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/773182.
The question stems from perhaps a more direct question about specific components: do tablists and disclosures natively intend to include haptics or screen reader hint or other state or properties to indicate to screen reader users where the component begins or ends?
In some web experiences there are screen reader hint text stating "end of..." or "entering" as a way to define the boundaries of these inline dialogs.
I had asked about haptics in the prior thread because I do not recall natively implemented version of this except in some haptic cues but have not experienced them consistently so I am not sure if that is an intended native Swift implementation or perhaps something custom.

I am building a language learning app for a Unlisted Primary Language. Any suggestions or heads ups? My plan is to select english and go with it.
Its unfortunate that I have to list a language learning app incorrectly and a tag for that language probably does not exist across the apple system.
I am invoking the UIImagePickerController of type UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypePhotoLibrary from my viewController. I want shift the keyboard focus to the Cancel button which is the first interactive element on the gallery picker. When a user has full keyboard access turned on they should be able to tap tab and interact with the gallery picker modal. How do I achieve this?
I have some doubts about how VoiceOver handles focus when the screen updates.
When a new UIViewController is pushed onto a UINavigationController or presented modally, how does VoiceOver decide which element to focus on? Is there a way to control or customize this behavior?
In a UISplitViewController, when an item is selected in the primary view controller, the focus should shift to the relevant content in the secondary view controller. How can we ensure that VoiceOver correctly moves focus to the right element in the secondary panel?
Hi everybody,
I'm trying to build a QR-Code Scanner and Generator App for IOS.
Whenever I try to implement the camera the app crashes with this comment:
This app has crashed because it attempted to access privacy-sensitive data without a usage description. The app's Info.plist must contain an NSCameraUsageDescription key with a string value explaining to the user how the app uses this data.
I tried to reduce the app to the minimum of nothing but camera with the same result.
Any ideas?
Tank you and
best Regards

The react-native-date-picker is based on UIDatePicker on iOS. The UIDatePicker element is a wrapper containing other elements that the VoiceOver user can interact with (year, month, day and so on).
I'm using react-native-date-picker with the UK date format(day month year). If I change day, such as 1 July 2024 to 2 July 2024, the VoiceOver says 2 of 12, but 12 is the month total. If I change month, such as 1 July 2024 to 1 August 2024, the VoiceOver says 8 of 31, but 31 is day total. It's weird.
Please help me out on how to solve this issue or let me know if I am missing anything.
