[macOS Sequoia] Using RegisterEventHotkey with option and shift modifiers doesn't working anymore
Hello. In my app, I use RegisterEventHotkey to implement global keyboard shortcuts to trigger actions. Up until macOS Sequoia, I was able to use a keyboard shortcut with option and shift as the modifiers, like option shift 2 (⌥ ⇧ 2). Now, on macOS Sequoia, using RegisterEventHotkey to register a hotkey with those exact modifiers (option and shift), regardless of the key, fails with the error -9868 (eventInternalErr). Is this a documented and wanted change, or is this a bug? Other modifier keys (just command, command option, command shift, command control, control shift, etc), all work. NSDocument doesn't autosave last changes
I had noticed an unsettling behaviour about NSDocument some years ago and created FB7392851, but the feedback didn't go forward, so I just updated it and hopefully here or there someone can explain what's going on. When running a simple document-based app with a text view, what I type before closing the app may be discarded without notice. To reproduce it, you can use the code below, then: Type "asdf" in the text view. Wait until the Xcode console logs "saving". You can trigger it by switching to another app and back again. Type something else in the text view, such as "asdf" on a new line. Quit the app. Relaunch the app. The second line has been discarded. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug? Incorrect menu consistency warnings logged in Tahoe for NSStatusItem, performance issues related?
Is anyone else getting new warning about menu items with submenus when running on Tahoe? I'm getting big performance problems using my menu as well as seeing these messages and I'm wondering if there's a connection. My app is faceless with a NSStatusItem with an NSMenu. Specifically it's my own subclass of NSMenu where I have a lot of code to manage the menu's dynamic behavior. This code is directly in the menu subclass instead of in a controller because the app I forked had it this way, a little wacky but I don't see it being a problem. A nib defines the contents of the menu, and it's instantiated manually with code like: var nibObjects: NSArray? = [] guard let nib = NSNib(nibNamed: "AppMenu", bundle: nil) else { ... } guard nib.instantiate(withOwner: owner, topLevelObjects: &nibObjects) else { ... } guard let menu = nibObjects?.compactMap({ $0 as? Self }).first else { ... } Within that nib.instantiate call I see a warning logged that seems new to Tahoe, before the menu's awakeFromNib is called, that says (edited): Internal inconsistency in menus - menu <NSMenu: 0x6000034e5340> believes it has <My_StatusItem_App.AppMenu: 0x7f9570c1a440> as a supermenu, but the supermenu does not seem to have any item with that submenu My_StatusItem_App.AppMenu: 0x7f9570c1a440 is my menu belonging to the NSStatusItem, NSMenu: 0x6000034e5340 is the submenu of one of its menu items. At a breakpoint in the NSMenu subclass's awakeFromNib I print self and see clear evidence of the warning's incorrectness. Below is a snippet of the console including the full warning, only edited for clarity and brevity. It shows on line 32 menu item with placeholder title "prototype batch item" that indeed has that submenu. Resizing text to fit available space
My app displays some text that should appear the same regardless of the container view or window size, i.e. it should grow and shrink with the container view or window. On iOS there is UILabel.adjustsFontSizeToFitWidth but I couldn't find any equivalent API on macOS. On the internet some people suggest to iteratively set a smaller font size until the text fits the available space, but I thought there must be a more efficient solution. How does UILabel.adjustsFontSizeToFitWidth do it? Crash when assigning NSImage to `@objc dynamic var` property
Xcode downloaded a crash report for my app which I don't quite understand. It seems the following line caused the crash: myEntity.image = newImage where myEntity is of type MyEntity: class MyEntity: NSObject, Identifiable { @objc dynamic var image: NSImage! ... } The code is called on the main thread. According to the crash report, thread 0 makes that assignment, and at the same time thread 16 is calling [NSImageView asynchronousPreparation:prepareResultUsingParameters:]. What could cause such a crash? Could I be doing something wrong or is this a bug in macOS? crash.crash

self.window.isVisible = NO not working in windowDidLoad
The following code won't work: - (void)windowDidLoad { [super windowDidLoad]; self.window.isVisible = NO; } The only main window still shows on application startup (in a minimal newly created app). One of my published apps in App Store relies on this behavior which had been working for many years since I started Xcode development.

NSTextView.shouldDrawInsertionPoint doesn't work with TextKit 2
The following code only ever causes shouldDrawInsertionPoint to be printed (no drawInsertionPoint), but even if that method returns false, the blinking insertion point is still drawn. On the other hand, with TextKit 1 it works as expected. Is there a way to hide the default insertion point in TextKit 2? My app draws its own. Custom NSWindow styleMask behavior changed/broken resulting in unresizable or non-responsive windows in macOS Tahoe 26.3 RC
NSWindow objects with custom styleMask configurations seem to behave erratically in macOS Tahoe 26.3 RC. For example an NSWindow is not resizable after issuing .styleMask.remove(.titled) or some NSWindow-s become totally unresponsive (the NSWindow becomes transparent to mouse events) with custom styleMask-s. This is a radical change compared to how all previous macOS versions or the 26.3 beta3 worked and seriously affects apps that might use custom NSWindows - this includes some system utilities, OSD/HUD apps etc, actually breaking some apps. Such fundamental compatibility altering changes should not be introduced in an RC stage (if this is intentional and not a bug) imho.

NSScrollView scrolling hitch
When scrolling a basic NSScrollView there seems to be a sudden jump after each flick. Scrolling does not appear smooth and is disorientating. A scroll jump seems to happen directly after letting go of a scroll flick using a trackpad/mouse. Right at that moment the scroll turns into a momentum scroll, slowly decreasing the speed. But the first frame after the gesture the content jumps forward, more than what is expected. Observations: Counterintuitively, scrolling appears to be smoother when disabling NSScrollView.isCompatibleWithResponsiveScrolling. If disabled using a custom NSScrollView subclass there is no large jump anymore. Scrolling also appears to be smoother using a SwiftUI ScrollView. I assume that has the same behaviour as a disabled isCompatibleWithResponsiveScrolling Ironically a WKWebView scrolls much smoother. No sudden jump is observable. It also seems to scroll with faster acceleration, but the individual frames do appear smoother. Why is this better than a native NSScrollView? Elastic scrolling at the bounds of the scroll view also appears much smoother for WKWebViews. When pulling to refresh there is a jump for NSScrollView/SwiftUI, but not for WKWebView. When using an NSScrollView with isCompatibleWithResponsiveScrolling disabled, scrolling appears just as smooth as WKWebView on macOS 13 Ventura and below. On macOS 14 Sonoma scrolling behaviour is suddenly different. Tested on Intel & Arm Macs, macOS 11 Big Sur through 15 Sequoia, built with Xcode 16. Should isCompatibleWithResponsiveScrolling be disabled on Sonoma+? Are there any drawbacks? There is also no overdraw anymore since Monterey, as described in https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/releasenotes/AppKit/RN-AppKitOlderNotes/#10_9Scrolling Even with responsive scrolling disabled, why is WKWebView scrolling much smoother than NSScrollView?

NSCollectionLayoutBoundarySupplementaryItem background blur covering the entire layout section
My app has the following UI layout: NSSplitViewController as the windows contentViewController NSPageController in the content (right) split item NSTabViewController as the root items of the NSPageController NSViewController with a collection view in the first tab of that NSTabViewController The collection view is using a NSCollectionViewCompositionalLayout in which the sections are set up to have a header using NSCollectionLayoutBoundarySupplementaryItem with pinToVisibleBounds=true and alignment=top With macOS 26, the pinned supplementary item automatically gets a blurred/semi-transparent background that seamlessly integrates with the toolbar. When the window's title bar has a NSTitlebarAccessoryViewController added, the said semi-transparent background gets a bottom hard edge and a hairline to provide more visual separation from the main content. During runtime, my NSPageController transitions from the NSTabViewController to another view controller. When transitioning back, the semi-transparent blur bleeds into the entire section. This happens no matter if there's a NSTitlebarAccessoryViewController added or not. It doesn't happen 100% of the cases, it seems to depend on section size, header visibility and/or scroll position. But it happens more often than not. Most of the time, a second or so after the back transition - shortly after pageControllerDidEndLiveTransition: of the NSPageControllerDelegate is called - the view updates and the supplementary views are back to normal. Sometimes, the issue also appears not when transitioning using NSPageController, but simply by scrolling through the collection view. Anyone has an idea what is happening here? Below are two screenshots of both the "ok" and "not ok" state I'm on macOS 26.0.1 and I'm using XCode 26.0.1

NSLayoutManager Bug -- layout manager re-laying out overlapping text into the same container.
I've posted a couple times now about major issues I'm having with NSLayoutManager and have written to Apple for code-level support, but no one at Apple has responded to me in more than two weeks. So I'm turning to the community again for any help whatsoever. I'm fairly certain it's a real bug in TextKit. If I'm right about that, I'd love for anyone at Apple to take an interest. And better yet, if I'm wrong (and I hope I am), I'd be incredibly grateful to anyone who can point out where my mistake lies! I've been stuck with this bug for weeks on end. The crux of the issue is that I'm getting what seemed to be totally incompatible results from back to back calls to textContainer(forGlyphAt:effectiveRange:) and lineFragmentRect(forGlyphAt:effectiveRange:withoutAdditionalLayout:)... I'd lay out my text into a fairly tall container of standard page width and then query the layout manager for the text container and line fragment rect for a particular glyph (a glyph that happens to fall after many newlines). Impossibly, the layout manager would report that that glyph was in said very tall container, but that the maxY of its lineFragmentRect was only at 14 points (my NSTextView's isFlipped is true, so that's 14 points measuring from the top down). After investigating, it appears that what is happening under the hood is NSLayoutManager is for some reason laying out text back into the first container in my series of containers, rather than overflowing it into the next container(s) and/or giving me a nil result for textContainer(forGlyphAt:...) I've created a totally stripped down version of my project that recreates this issue reliably and I'm hoping literally anyone at Apple will respond to me. In order to recreate the bug, I've had to build a very specific set of preview data - namely some NSTextStorage content and a unique set of NSTextViews / NSTextContainers. Because of the unique and particular setup required to recreate this bug, the code is too much to paste here (my preview data definition is a little unwieldy but the code that actually processes/parses it is not). I can share the project if anyone is able and willing to look into this with me. It seems I'm not able to share a .zip of the project folder here but am happy to email or share a dropbox link.

Set edge effect style in AppKit
In macOS 26 beta 2 it is possible to set an edge effect style via UIKit using the .scrollEdgeEffectStyle property. (note: I haven't tested this, I'm just looking at the documentation). See: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/swiftui/view/scrolledgeeffectstyle(_:for:) Is there an equivalent API for AppKit-based apps? I can't seem to find any additions in NSView or NSScrollView or elsewhere that seem relevant. Spotlight Shows "Helper Apps" That Are Inside Main App Bundle That Are Not Intended to Be Launched By The User
I have Mac apps that embed “Helper Apps” inside their main bundle. The helper apps do work on behalf of the main application. The helper app doesn’t show a dock icon, it does show minimal UI like an open panel in certain situations (part of NSService implementation). And it does make use of the NSApplication lifecycle and auto quits after it completes all work. Currently the helper app is inside the main app bundle at: /Contents/Applications/HelperApp.app Prior to Tahoe these were never displayed to user in LaunchPad but now the Spotlight based AppLauncher displays them. What’s the recommended way to get these out of the Spotlight App list on macOS Tahoe? Thanks in advance.

NSProgress - way to publish progress to make the file url unselectable in Finder?
So I'm in the middle of an asynchronous file operation. I publish an NSProgress and it displays wonderfully in Finder. But it is a folder and while the operation is in progress the user should not be allowed to enter it, modify it, etc, while the work is being done. I want to do this to protect the user from doing something silly. But Finder does not prevent the selection with the published progress. And while it would be kind of dumb to do - the user can just go about adding/removing contents to the folder while it has progress. If I remember correctly publishing an NSProgress did use to prevent the file from being selectable in Finder until either the progress finished or my app is quit (or maybe not)? But now the user is free to select, edit, modify during progress which could cause problems if the user does something unexpectedly silly. Is there a way to mark the file 'unselectable' with the published progress? Thanks in advance.

Force NSDocument save panel to select most specific type in format popup button
My app supports different plain text file formats, including the standard .txt and Markdown. When creating a new document, my app already asks which format it should have, so when saving it, I would expect that the save panel already selects that format in the popup button, but currently it always selects "Plain Text". For example, I would expect for a Markdown document that it selects "Markdown" instead of "Plain Text". Is there a way to force it to select the most specific format matching the document format?

NSRulerView's background color and transparency (macOS 26)
When I compiled my legacy project with Tahoe's macOS 26 SDK, NSRulerViews are showing a very different design: Under prior macOS versions the horizontal and verrical ruler's background were blurring the content view, which was extending under the rulers, showing through their transparency. With Tahoe the horizontal ruler is always reflecting the scrollview's background color, showing the blurred content view beneath. And the vertical ruler is always completely transparent (without any blurring), showing the content together with the ruler's markers and ticks. It's difficult to describe, I'll try to replicate this behavior with a minimal test project, and probably file a bug report / enhancement request. But before I take next steps, can anyone confirm this observation? Maybe it is an intentional design decision by Apple?

NSDocumentController not adding "Open Recent" menu
I have a SwiftUI based app. For lots of reasons I was forced to use NSDocument instead of using DocumentGroup. I configure the main menu in my AppDelegate. It has the following code: let fileMenuItem = NSMenuItem() let fileMenu = NSMenu(title: "File") fileMenu.addItem(withTitle: "New", action: #selector(NSDocumentController.newDocument(_:)), keyEquivalent: "n") fileMenu.addItem(withTitle: "Open...", action: #selector(NSDocumentController.openDocument(_:)), keyEquivalent: "o") The New and Open work as expected. It is my understanding that the NSDocumentController should automatically add the "Open Recent" menu when it sees the Open action based on the NSDocumentController. It is not appearing. When I print the state of the recent documents using print("recent documents \(NSDocumentController.shared.recentDocumentURLs), maximum \(NSDocumentController.shared.maximumRecentDocumentCount)") I see the recent document urls and a count of 10. What can I do to make the menu appear? Thanks for the help.

How to match Status/Menu Bar font (Date and Time)
Hello, I am trying to match the font and the position of the date and time displayed. This is what it looks like: .font: NSFont.systemFont(ofSize: NSFont.systemFontSize, weight: .regular), .foregroundColor: NSColor.labelColor, .baselineOffset: 0.5 It looks great on built-in display, but on external 4K it is incorrect. The baselineOffest is unnecessary, and the font looks skinny in comparison. Can anyone comment on such issue?

At a breakpoint in the NSMenu subclass's awakeFromNib I print self and see clear evidence of the warning's incorrectness. Below is a snippet of the console including the full warning, only edited for clarity and brevity. It shows on line 32 menu item with placeholder title "prototype batch item" that indeed has that submenu. Resizing text to fit available space
My app displays some text that should appear the same regardless of the container view or window size, i.e. it should grow and shrink with the container view or window. On iOS there is UILabel.adjustsFontSizeToFitWidth but I couldn't find any equivalent API on macOS. On the internet some people suggest to iteratively set a smaller font size until the text fits the available space, but I thought there must be a more efficient solution. How does UILabel.adjustsFontSizeToFitWidth do it? Crash when assigning NSImage to `@objc dynamic var` property
Xcode downloaded a crash report for my app which I don't quite understand. It seems the following line caused the crash: myEntity.image = newImage where myEntity is of type MyEntity: class MyEntity: NSObject, Identifiable { @objc dynamic var image: NSImage! ... } The code is called on the main thread. According to the crash report, thread 0 makes that assignment, and at the same time thread 16 is calling [NSImageView asynchronousPreparation:prepareResultUsingParameters:]. What could cause such a crash? Could I be doing something wrong or is this a bug in macOS? crash.crash

self.window.isVisible = NO not working in windowDidLoad
The following code won't work: - (void)windowDidLoad { [super windowDidLoad]; self.window.isVisible = NO; } The only main window still shows on application startup (in a minimal newly created app). One of my published apps in App Store relies on this behavior which had been working for many years since I started Xcode development.

NSTextView.shouldDrawInsertionPoint doesn't work with TextKit 2
The following code only ever causes shouldDrawInsertionPoint to be printed (no drawInsertionPoint), but even if that method returns false, the blinking insertion point is still drawn. On the other hand, with TextKit 1 it works as expected. Is there a way to hide the default insertion point in TextKit 2? My app draws its own. Custom NSWindow styleMask behavior changed/broken resulting in unresizable or non-responsive windows in macOS Tahoe 26.3 RC
NSWindow objects with custom styleMask configurations seem to behave erratically in macOS Tahoe 26.3 RC. For example an NSWindow is not resizable after issuing .styleMask.remove(.titled) or some NSWindow-s become totally unresponsive (the NSWindow becomes transparent to mouse events) with custom styleMask-s. This is a radical change compared to how all previous macOS versions or the 26.3 beta3 worked and seriously affects apps that might use custom NSWindows - this includes some system utilities, OSD/HUD apps etc, actually breaking some apps. Such fundamental compatibility altering changes should not be introduced in an RC stage (if this is intentional and not a bug) imho.

NSScrollView scrolling hitch
When scrolling a basic NSScrollView there seems to be a sudden jump after each flick. Scrolling does not appear smooth and is disorientating. A scroll jump seems to happen directly after letting go of a scroll flick using a trackpad/mouse. Right at that moment the scroll turns into a momentum scroll, slowly decreasing the speed. But the first frame after the gesture the content jumps forward, more than what is expected. Observations: Counterintuitively, scrolling appears to be smoother when disabling NSScrollView.isCompatibleWithResponsiveScrolling. If disabled using a custom NSScrollView subclass there is no large jump anymore. Scrolling also appears to be smoother using a SwiftUI ScrollView. I assume that has the same behaviour as a disabled isCompatibleWithResponsiveScrolling Ironically a WKWebView scrolls much smoother. No sudden jump is observable. It also seems to scroll with faster acceleration, but the individual frames do appear smoother. Why is this better than a native NSScrollView? Elastic scrolling at the bounds of the scroll view also appears much smoother for WKWebViews. When pulling to refresh there is a jump for NSScrollView/SwiftUI, but not for WKWebView. When using an NSScrollView with isCompatibleWithResponsiveScrolling disabled, scrolling appears just as smooth as WKWebView on macOS 13 Ventura and below. On macOS 14 Sonoma scrolling behaviour is suddenly different. Tested on Intel & Arm Macs, macOS 11 Big Sur through 15 Sequoia, built with Xcode 16. Should isCompatibleWithResponsiveScrolling be disabled on Sonoma+? Are there any drawbacks? There is also no overdraw anymore since Monterey, as described in https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/releasenotes/AppKit/RN-AppKitOlderNotes/#10_9Scrolling Even with responsive scrolling disabled, why is WKWebView scrolling much smoother than NSScrollView?

NSCollectionLayoutBoundarySupplementaryItem background blur covering the entire layout section
My app has the following UI layout: NSSplitViewController as the windows contentViewController NSPageController in the content (right) split item NSTabViewController as the root items of the NSPageController NSViewController with a collection view in the first tab of that NSTabViewController The collection view is using a NSCollectionViewCompositionalLayout in which the sections are set up to have a header using NSCollectionLayoutBoundarySupplementaryItem with pinToVisibleBounds=true and alignment=top With macOS 26, the pinned supplementary item automatically gets a blurred/semi-transparent background that seamlessly integrates with the toolbar. When the window's title bar has a NSTitlebarAccessoryViewController added, the said semi-transparent background gets a bottom hard edge and a hairline to provide more visual separation from the main content. During runtime, my NSPageController transitions from the NSTabViewController to another view controller. When transitioning back, the semi-transparent blur bleeds into the entire section. This happens no matter if there's a NSTitlebarAccessoryViewController added or not. It doesn't happen 100% of the cases, it seems to depend on section size, header visibility and/or scroll position. But it happens more often than not. Most of the time, a second or so after the back transition - shortly after pageControllerDidEndLiveTransition: of the NSPageControllerDelegate is called - the view updates and the supplementary views are back to normal. Sometimes, the issue also appears not when transitioning using NSPageController, but simply by scrolling through the collection view. Anyone has an idea what is happening here? Below are two screenshots of both the "ok" and "not ok" state I'm on macOS 26.0.1 and I'm using XCode 26.0.1

NSLayoutManager Bug -- layout manager re-laying out overlapping text into the same container.
I've posted a couple times now about major issues I'm having with NSLayoutManager and have written to Apple for code-level support, but no one at Apple has responded to me in more than two weeks. So I'm turning to the community again for any help whatsoever. I'm fairly certain it's a real bug in TextKit. If I'm right about that, I'd love for anyone at Apple to take an interest. And better yet, if I'm wrong (and I hope I am), I'd be incredibly grateful to anyone who can point out where my mistake lies! I've been stuck with this bug for weeks on end. The crux of the issue is that I'm getting what seemed to be totally incompatible results from back to back calls to textContainer(forGlyphAt:effectiveRange:) and lineFragmentRect(forGlyphAt:effectiveRange:withoutAdditionalLayout:)... I'd lay out my text into a fairly tall container of standard page width and then query the layout manager for the text container and line fragment rect for a particular glyph (a glyph that happens to fall after many newlines). Impossibly, the layout manager would report that that glyph was in said very tall container, but that the maxY of its lineFragmentRect was only at 14 points (my NSTextView's isFlipped is true, so that's 14 points measuring from the top down). After investigating, it appears that what is happening under the hood is NSLayoutManager is for some reason laying out text back into the first container in my series of containers, rather than overflowing it into the next container(s) and/or giving me a nil result for textContainer(forGlyphAt:...) I've created a totally stripped down version of my project that recreates this issue reliably and I'm hoping literally anyone at Apple will respond to me. In order to recreate the bug, I've had to build a very specific set of preview data - namely some NSTextStorage content and a unique set of NSTextViews / NSTextContainers. Because of the unique and particular setup required to recreate this bug, the code is too much to paste here (my preview data definition is a little unwieldy but the code that actually processes/parses it is not). I can share the project if anyone is able and willing to look into this with me. It seems I'm not able to share a .zip of the project folder here but am happy to email or share a dropbox link.

Set edge effect style in AppKit
In macOS 26 beta 2 it is possible to set an edge effect style via UIKit using the .scrollEdgeEffectStyle property. (note: I haven't tested this, I'm just looking at the documentation). See: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/swiftui/view/scrolledgeeffectstyle(_:for:) Is there an equivalent API for AppKit-based apps? I can't seem to find any additions in NSView or NSScrollView or elsewhere that seem relevant. Spotlight Shows "Helper Apps" That Are Inside Main App Bundle That Are Not Intended to Be Launched By The User
I have Mac apps that embed “Helper Apps” inside their main bundle. The helper apps do work on behalf of the main application. The helper app doesn’t show a dock icon, it does show minimal UI like an open panel in certain situations (part of NSService implementation). And it does make use of the NSApplication lifecycle and auto quits after it completes all work. Currently the helper app is inside the main app bundle at: /Contents/Applications/HelperApp.app Prior to Tahoe these were never displayed to user in LaunchPad but now the Spotlight based AppLauncher displays them. What’s the recommended way to get these out of the Spotlight App list on macOS Tahoe? Thanks in advance.

NSProgress - way to publish progress to make the file url unselectable in Finder?
So I'm in the middle of an asynchronous file operation. I publish an NSProgress and it displays wonderfully in Finder. But it is a folder and while the operation is in progress the user should not be allowed to enter it, modify it, etc, while the work is being done. I want to do this to protect the user from doing something silly. But Finder does not prevent the selection with the published progress. And while it would be kind of dumb to do - the user can just go about adding/removing contents to the folder while it has progress. If I remember correctly publishing an NSProgress did use to prevent the file from being selectable in Finder until either the progress finished or my app is quit (or maybe not)? But now the user is free to select, edit, modify during progress which could cause problems if the user does something unexpectedly silly. Is there a way to mark the file 'unselectable' with the published progress? Thanks in advance.

Force NSDocument save panel to select most specific type in format popup button
My app supports different plain text file formats, including the standard .txt and Markdown. When creating a new document, my app already asks which format it should have, so when saving it, I would expect that the save panel already selects that format in the popup button, but currently it always selects "Plain Text". For example, I would expect for a Markdown document that it selects "Markdown" instead of "Plain Text". Is there a way to force it to select the most specific format matching the document format?

NSRulerView's background color and transparency (macOS 26)
When I compiled my legacy project with Tahoe's macOS 26 SDK, NSRulerViews are showing a very different design: Under prior macOS versions the horizontal and verrical ruler's background were blurring the content view, which was extending under the rulers, showing through their transparency. With Tahoe the horizontal ruler is always reflecting the scrollview's background color, showing the blurred content view beneath. And the vertical ruler is always completely transparent (without any blurring), showing the content together with the ruler's markers and ticks. It's difficult to describe, I'll try to replicate this behavior with a minimal test project, and probably file a bug report / enhancement request. But before I take next steps, can anyone confirm this observation? Maybe it is an intentional design decision by Apple?

QLThumbnailGenerator macOS 26.4 No Longer Honors Users 'Folder Color' Preference When Making Icons for Folders
I use QLThumbnailGenerator to generate icons. After updating to macOS Tahoe 26.4 the folder color preference of the user is no longer respected. It just makes the icon default 'light blue.'

NSDocumentController not adding "Open Recent" menu
I have a SwiftUI based app. For lots of reasons I was forced to use NSDocument instead of using DocumentGroup. I configure the main menu in my AppDelegate. It has the following code: let fileMenuItem = NSMenuItem() let fileMenu = NSMenu(title: "File") fileMenu.addItem(withTitle: "New", action: #selector(NSDocumentController.newDocument(_:)), keyEquivalent: "n") fileMenu.addItem(withTitle: "Open...", action: #selector(NSDocumentController.openDocument(_:)), keyEquivalent: "o") The New and Open work as expected. It is my understanding that the NSDocumentController should automatically add the "Open Recent" menu when it sees the Open action based on the NSDocumentController. It is not appearing. When I print the state of the recent documents using print("recent documents \(NSDocumentController.shared.recentDocumentURLs), maximum \(NSDocumentController.shared.maximumRecentDocumentCount)") I see the recent document urls and a count of 10. What can I do to make the menu appear? Thanks for the help.

How to match Status/Menu Bar font (Date and Time)
Hello, I am trying to match the font and the position of the date and time displayed. This is what it looks like: .font: NSFont.systemFont(ofSize: NSFont.systemFontSize, weight: .regular), .foregroundColor: NSColor.labelColor, .baselineOffset: 0.5 It looks great on built-in display, but on external 4K it is incorrect. The baselineOffest is unnecessary, and the font looks skinny in comparison. Can anyone comment on such issue?
