Custom VID/PID with com.apple.DriverKit-AppleUSBFTDI
We submitted a request a couple years ago to Apple through the feedback system to add 1 custom vid/pid to the com.apple.DriverKit-AppleUSBFTDI driver. They added it to Monterey and it appears in all macOS versions since Monterey. Not long after submitting this request, we sent a follow-up request to add 2 more pids (same vid, and same personality). Apple eventually added these as well. They appear as an array of pids under the same personality. We are 2 weeks from releasing one of those products (added in the second request) and are just now realizing that the second request was only honored on Sequoia (this fact was masked by us using a temporary ftdi vid/pid during development while waiting for Microsoft to resolve an issue related to adding custom vid/pids to FTDI's Windows driver). All other versions that we are supposed to support (Monterey thru Sonoma) only have the first device. None of the devices from the second request are listed, and consequently this device doesn't match and doesn't expose as a serial port as it should. Our application that works with these devices supports Monterey and up, and we desperately need all devices that we have submitted so far to be available on Monterey and up (thru system updates). I tried starting a code-level support ticket, but they don't have a category for this problem. The feedback mechanism is a black box. You submit the request and get no response. You just wait for weeks/months and then it just appears one day. That was fine then, but we're now in an emergency situation. (FTDI's own dext driver, last time we tried it at least, was unable to be installed after being customized, and they admitted to us during email support that there was some issue on the Apple side that was preventing it from being customized. They haven't updated the dext driver since then, so I assume the situation is still the same) What can we do?

CPInformationTemplate custom back button (CPBarButton) not working on iOS 16 but works on iOS 18
I'm trying to implement a custom back button in a CPInformationTemplate using CPBarButton. It works as expected on iOS 18 — the button appears in the navigation bar and correctly pops the template when tapped. However, on iOS 16 devices, the custom back button does not respond to taps at all. The reason I need a custom back button is because I want to perform cleanup and reset logic before popping the template. Is there any workaround for making this work on iOS 16? Or is there a recommended way to hook into the system back button behavior so that I can execute code when the template is dismissed?

Why does CPListItem show a loading indicator when tapped, even with no configuration?
I'm using CPListItem like this: CPListItem( text: "test", detailText: "test", image: nil, accessoryImage: nil, accessoryType: .none ) However, when I tap the item in the list, a loading indicator appears on the right side, as shown in the image I attached. I didn’t configure anything that should cause this behavior. Why is the loading indicator shown by default when tapping a list item? Is there a way to prevent it from appearing?

iOS 18 (22G5054d) Developer Beta broke Apple CarPlay
My 2025 Hyundai Tucson SEL was doing fine with Apple CarPlay until last night's update, now it refuses to see/use CarPlay, both by bluetooth and by cable. Mind you, was working perfectly fine yesterday, it still sees my wife's phone via bluetooth and my son's phone via cable. The Tucson's last over-the-air update was 5/23/25, as in, nothing has changed with the Tucson, or my other family phones, which leaves only one variable that changed, my iPhone updating to the latest iOS developer beta.

iPad App with custom HID over USB
Hello, I need to develop an application for a customer who is using an iPad. This application needs to read from and send data to a custom HID device connected via USB-C. Using USBDriverKit, the HID device can be detected when plugged into the iPad. However, when trying to open the device with the following code: ivars->interface = OSDynamicCast(IOUSBHostInterface, provider); ret = ivars->interface->Open(this, 0, NULL); It only returns e00002cd. I would like to ask if it is possible to access a custom HID device on iPadOS using USBDriverkit? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

USB communication with a pre-OS system
Hello everyone, We're working on an iOS app that needs to connect to a non-Apple pre-operating system using USB for serial communication. Our goal is to send and receive data between an iPhone and a UEFI-based system directly over USB. We've created a proof of concept using the USBMux protocol, which let us exchange basic messages. However, we're running into problems with the USB endpoint setup. In some cases, the USB communication doesn't start or stay connected. Since this is for a pre-boot environment, it might not fit into the usual iOS USB communication frameworks. We're looking for help with the following: Any guidance or documentation on setting up USB serial communication between an iPhone and a non-Apple pre-boot system Information on system APIs, frameworks, or protocols that iOS supports for direct USB communication in this scenario Access to official USBMux documentation or specs to understand its limitations and capabilities better Whether this communication requires MFi certification or if there are other Apple-supported interfaces we can use Thank you!

Using alternate DriverKit SDKs in Xcode
After some experimentation with copying multiple DriverKit SDKs into /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/DriverKit.platform/Developer/SDKs/DriverKit, it's become clear that Xcode only supports the DriverKit version that ships with it. There is no way to configure an alternative SDK within a project and changing to a different one results in strange build warnings and errors. This begs the question - how are developers supposed to develop and support dexts? Here's one example scenario: SCSIDriverKit introduced a breaking change in DriverKit 24.4 (macOS 15.4 and Xcode 16.3) due to a new feature. Once a dext is built against that kit, it will not function on macOS 15.0-15.3 whether that feature is implemented or not. We found a similar thing with NetworkingDriverKit as well. So, over the course of maintaining a Sequoia product while working in Sequoia itself, simply updating Xcode breaks the product. Not to mention trying to maintain a Sequoia product in Tahoe when it is released. How is this a good developer experience? Are developers resigned to having a myriad of Xcode versions which may require booting into multiple macOS versions to use? That would in turn produce a myriad of product versions that would need to be deciphered by the user or an installer? Shouldn't developers be able to use the latest tooling while still being able to produce products for OSes that are just a year or two old? Or should DriverKit files be conditionalized so configuring a deployment version in Xcode actually builds the right thing even with the latest SDK? I just don't get it. Help me understand. Replacing kexts with dexts seems like a development nightmare.

driverkit.transport.usb
I’m creating my first DriverKit extension and I ran into an entitlement issue when trying to load my driver. Error 0x0 8397 7 taskgated-helper: (ConfigurationProfiles) [com.apple.ManagedClient:ProvisioningProfiles] App.Dext: Unsatisfied entitlements: com.apple.developer.driverkit.transport.usb I have already registered the entitlement com.apple.developer.driverkit.transport.usb with my vendor ID in the Apple Developer portal. However, when I download the provisioning profile, it doesn’t include the idVendor value. Screenshot from the developer portal (provisioning profile without idVendor) ? <key>com.apple.developer.driverkit.transport.usb</key> <array> <dict> <key>idVendor</key> <integer>1356</integer> </dict> </array> -Is this error caused by me registering the vendor ID incorrectly? -Or is there an issue with how the entitlement is reflected in the provisioning profile? Any guidance would be appreciated.

BLE SMP pairing failed due to unspecified reason
Hello, dear Apple engineers. We have recently tried to pair our Android phones and iPhones via BLE SMP, but have encountered a very high probability of pairing failures. Through PacketLogger and Android phone HCI, we have determined that the issue is caused by the iOS side sending an SMP Pairing Failed message during the SMP process. Please help us analyze the reason for this.

IOS alternatives to DriverKit
Hi, We were planning on using DriverKit to develop a USB Driver on IOS for iPhone. Within the DriverKit website, it say 'IOS16.0+' which lead us to believe it was compatible with iPhones running IOS16.0+. However, it appears DriverKit is only available for iPads running iPadOS, and computers running macOS. Are there any alternatives that would allow us to create a device specific USB driver for an iPhone running IOS?

SMS messages filtered on new iOS26
Hi everyone, We are experiencing an issue with SMS messages sent from our banking app (iOS) to our customers. The SMS are being delivered by the carrier, but on iOS devices some of them appear to be filtered or blocked, and users don’t see them in the Messages app. This seems to be related to new SMS filtering rules on iOS (possibly affecting financial institutions and transactional SMS). • Has anyone faced a similar situation? • Are there specific Apple guidelines or best practices for SMS sender IDs / content to avoid being filtered? • Is there any official documentation from Apple regarding these new SMS filtering mechanisms? Any guidance or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

MacBook peripherals malfunction after allowed Driver Extensions
Hi, I’m developing my own Pcie Ethernet driverkit. My Pcie Ethernet card connect on Razor Core X and connect to MacBook via thunderbolt 3. The Problem: Click Driver application and send activate system extension request, then go to System setting -> Privacy & Security, in Extension section ->click “allow” , the peripherals malfunction immediately after "allow" clicked and type in the password.I can't control all peripherals devices like touchpad, keyboard and all of thunderbolt ports. However, it can regain functionality after plugging and unplugging the device. results I expected: User approve Driver Extensions enable and all peripherals work normally and Ethernet Card works. Has anyone encountered this problem? maybe something wrong in "OSSystemExtensionRequestDelegate" but I have no idea how to fix it Please Help. My Xcode version is Version 15.3 (15E204a). Thanks

The Map() of IOBufferMemoryDescriptor failure and cause the DriverKit Start() repeat
Hello Everyone, I am trying to develop a DriverKit for RAID system, using PCIDriverKit & SCSIControllerDriverKit framework. The driver can detect the Vendor ID and Device ID. But before communicating to the RAID system, I would like to simulate a virtual Volume using a memory block to talk with macOS. In the UserInitializeController(), I allocated a 512K memory for a IOBufferMemoryDescriptor* volumeBuffer, but fail to use Map() to map memory for volumeBuffer. result = ivars->volumeBuffer->Map( 0, // Options: Use default 0, // Offset: Start of the buffer ivars->volumeSize, // Length: Must not exceed buffer size 0, // Flags: Use default nullptr, // Address space: Default address space &mappedAddress // Output parameter ); Log("Memory mapped completed at address: 0x%llx", mappedAddress); // this line never run The Log for Map completed never run, just restart to run the Start() and makes this Driver re-run again and again, in the end, the driver eat out macOS's memory and system halt. Are the parameters for Map() error? or I should not put this code in UserInitializeController()? Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance. Charles

CoreAudio server plugin: updating kAudioStreamPropertyAvailablePhysicalFormats
Hi, our CoreAudio server plugin supports different clock sources. A switch might result in a change of the selectable sample rates (and other settings). On a clock source switch the plugin reconfigures the set of available kAudioStreamPropertyAvailablePhysicalFormats and announces the change via AudioServerPlugInHostInterface::PropertiesChanged(). However at least the Audio MIDI Setup seems to ignore to update it's UI. The changes are first reflected after selecting another device and re-selecting the device of interest. (Latest macOS, M4 macMini) Is this a bug? Or is our CoreAudio server plugin required to indicate the change in the list of available audio formats differently? Thanks!
