I’m working on generating images using Image Playground. The code works fine for other styles but fails when using an external provider. I don’t see any other requirements mentioned in the documentation. Has anyone else encountered a similar issue?
Here’s the relevant code snippet:
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/imageplayground/imageplaygroundstyle/externalprovider?changes=_2
The error message is also not very helpful. It simply states that the creation failed.
Note: I have enabled ChatGPT Plus, and the image generation using ChatGPT styles works fine when using the Playground app.
do {
let creator = try await ImageCreator()
let concept = ImagePlaygroundConcept.text("Love")
let images = creator.images(for: [concept], style: .externalProvider, limit: 1)
for try await image in images {
// Handle image
break
}
} catch {
// Handle error
}
I’m using the iOS 26 RC, and when I print creator.availableStyles, it doesn’t display the external Provider.

I am using the iPhone 17 Pro simulator that was included with Xcode 26.0.1. My Mac is running macOS 26. When I started the simulator for the first time I got the "Ready for Apple Intelligence" notification but when I access Image Playground in my app it says it is not available on this iPhone. Any solution to get it working on the simulator?
I'm trying to use Apple's new Visual Intelligence API for recommending content through screenshot image search. The problem I encountered is that the SemanticContentDescriptor labels are either completely empty or super misleading, making it impossible to query for similar content on my app. Even the closest matching example was inaccurate, returning a single label ["cardigan"] for a Supreme T-Shirt.
I see other apps using this API like Etsy for example, and I'm wondering if they're using the input pixel buffer to query for similar content rather than using the labels?
If anyone has a similar experience or something that wasn't called out in the documentation please lmk! Thanks.
Lookin for J - is this a safe place for discussing full apps ive built but not submitted or shared , I have maybe over 100 but had been unaware any assistance was provided..
is there a formal process to take to submit an app fro review to improve OS, other than during App Store review.

I didn't run benchmarks before update, but it seems at least 5x slower. Of course all the LLM work is on remote servers, so is non-intuitive to me this should be happening.
Had updated MacOS and Xcode to 26.1RC at the same time, so can't even say I think it is MacOS or I think it is Xcode.
Before the update the progress indicator for each piece of code might seem to get stuck at the very end (and toggling between Navigators and Coding Assistant) in Xcode UI seemed to refresh the UI and confirm coding complete... but now it seems progress races to 50%, then often is stuck at 75%... well earlier than used to get stuck. And it like something is legitimately processing not just a UI glitch.
I'm wondering if this is somehow tied to visual rendering of the code in the little white window? CMD-TAB into Xcode seems laggy. Xcode is pinning a CPU. Why, this is all remote LLM work?

Hi,
I'm trying to analyze images in my Photos library with the following code:
func analyzeImages(_ inputIDs: [String])
{
let manager = PHImageManager.default()
let option = PHImageRequestOptions()
option.isSynchronous = true
option.isNetworkAccessAllowed = true
option.resizeMode = .none
option.deliveryMode = .highQualityFormat
let concurrentTasks=1
let clock = ContinuousClock()
let duration = clock.measure {
let group = DispatchGroup()
let sema = DispatchSemaphore(value: concurrentTasks)
for entry in inputIDs {
if let asset=PHAsset.fetchAssets(withLocalIdentifiers: [entry], options: nil).firstObject {
print("analyzing asset: \(entry)")
group.enter()
sema.wait()
manager.requestImage(for: asset, targetSize: PHImageManagerMaximumSize, contentMode: .aspectFit, options: option) { (result, info) in
if let result = result {
Task {
print("retrieved asset: \(entry)")
let aestheticsRequest = CalculateImageAestheticsScoresRequest()
let fingerprintRequest = GenerateImageFeaturePrintRequest()
let inputImage = result.cgImage!
let handler = ImageRequestHandler(inputImage)
let (aesthetics,fingerprint) = try await handler.perform(aestheticsRequest, fingerprintRequest)
// save Results
print("finished asset: \(entry)")
sema.signal()
group.leave()
}
}
else {
group.leave()
}
}
}
}
group.wait()
}
print("analyzeImages: Duration \(duration)")
}
When running this code, only two requests are being processed simultaneously (due to to the semaphore)... However, if I call the function with a large list of images (>100), memory usage balloons over 1.6GB and the app crashes. If I call with a smaller number of images, the loop completes and the memory is freed.
When I use instruments to look for memory leaks, it indicates no memory leaks are found, but there are 150+ VM:IOSurfaces allocated by CMPhoto, CoreVideo and CoreGraphics @ 35MB each. Shouldn't each surface be released when the task is complete?
I'm trying to determine the best practice for handling if Image Playground is available but not installed or simply not supported.
If ImagePlaygroundViewController.isAvailable is true, I will just display a button to start an Image Playground session. If it is false, does that mean ImagePlayground is supported but not installed?
If it's supported and not installed, instead of a button to launch it, I want to display something like "Enable Apple Intelligence in Settings" or, better yet, a button that opens the Intelligence settings. Is that possible?
But if it is on a system that doesn't support it, of course, I don't want to instruct the user to enable it. How can I determine if a device cannot install Image Playground?
I read that Apple Intelligence requires iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models, and no mention of the M1 iPad Pro, yet Image Playground runs on my M1 iPad Pro. What are the hardware requirements for Image Playground?

I cannot find the hardware requirements for Image Playground documented anywhere. I'm also not sure if they are identical to devices that support Apple Intelligence.
On the App Store, the only requirement listed for Image Playground is iOS 18.2.
Not knowing the requirements is an issue because I need to be able to clearly state the requirements for the feature in my app description.
Also, I'm sure my mother's current iPad is too old, but I'm not sure what models support it if I were to buy her a new one.

When using the imagePlaygroundSheet modifier in SwiftUI, the system presets an image playground in a fixed size. Especially on macOS, this modal is rather small and doesn't utilize the available space efficiently.
Is there a way to make the modal bigger, or allow the user to resize the dialog? I tried presentationDetents, but this would need to be applied to the content of the sheet, which is provided by the system...
I guess this question applies to other system-provided sheets like the photo picker as well.
there was a beta version. after the update it worked just like regular Siri. this message has been there for two days now but there is no loading.

Hi everyone,
I’m currently using macOS Version 15.3 Beta (24D5034f), and I’m encountering an issue with Apple Intelligence. The image generation tools seem to work fine, but everything else shows a message saying that it’s “not available at this time.”
I’ve tried restarting my Mac and double-checked my settings, but the problem persists. Is anyone else experiencing this issue on the beta version? Are there any fixes or settings I might be overlooking?
Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
I have an image based app with albums, except in my app, albums are known as galleries.
When I tried to conform my existing OpenGalleryIntent with @AssistantIntent(schema: .photos.openAlbum), I had to change my existing gallery parameter to be called target in order to fit the predefined shape of this domain.
Previously, my intent was configured to display as “Open Gallery” with the description “Opens the selected Gallery” in the Shortcuts app. After conforming to the photos domain, it displays as “Open Album” with a description “Opens the Provided Album”.
Shortcuts is ignoring my configured title and description now. My code builds, but with the following build warnings:
Parameter argument title of a required Assistant schema intent parameter target should not be overridden
Implementation of the property title of an AppIntent conforming to AssistantSchemaIntent should not be overridden
Implementation of the property description of an AppIntent conforming to AssistantSchemaIntent should not be overridden
Is my only option to change the concept of a Gallery inside of my app into an Album? I don't want to do this... Conceptually, my app aligns well with this domain does, but I didn't consider that conforming to the shape of an AI schema intent would also dictate exactly how it's presented to the user.

In this thread, I asked about adding parameters to App Shortcuts. The conclusion that I've drawn so far is that for App Shortcuts, there cannot be any parameters in the prompt, otherwise the system cannot find the AppShortcutsProvider. While this is fine for Shortcuts and non-voice interaction, I'd like to find a way to add parameters to the prompt. Here is the scenario:
My app controls a device that displays some content on "pages." The pages are defined in an AppEnum, which I use for Shortcuts integration via App Intents. The App Intent functions as expected, and is able to change the page based on the user selection within Shortcuts (or prompted if using the App Shortcut). What I'd like to do is allow the user to be able to say "Siri, open with ."
So far, The closest I've come to understanding how this works is through the .intentsdefinition file you can create (and SiriKit in general), however the part that really confused me there is a button in the File Editor that says "Convert to App Intent." To me, this means that I should be able to use the app intent I've already authored and hook that into Siri, rather than making an entirely new function/code-block that does exactly the same thing. Ideally, that's what I want to do.
What's the right way to define this behavior?
p.s. If I had to pick an intent schema in the context of AssistantSchemas, I'd say it's closest to the "Open File" one, if that helps. I'd ultimately like to make the "pages" user-customizable so in the long run, that would be what I'd do.

I've been struggling and Siri support to an application. I have developed it kept getting this error when I run it on MacOS:
Failed to refresh AppShortcut parameters with error: Error Domain=Foundation._GenericObjCError Code=0 "(null)"
So I found AppIntentsSampleApp and downloaded and buil it and I get a similar, but larger, error:
Failed to refresh AppShortcut parameters with error: Error Domain=RBSServiceErrorDomain Code=1 "(originator doesn't have entitlement com.apple.private.xpc.launchd.app-server AND originator doesn't have entitlement com.apple.assertiond.system-shell AND originator doesn't have entitlement com.apple.runningboard.launchprocess)" UserInfo={NSLocalizedFailureReason=(originator doesn't have entitlement com.apple.private.xpc.launchd.app-server AND originator doesn't have entitlement com.apple.assertiond.system-shell AND j
And it goes on and on.
What am I missing? I'm using Xcode 16. I don't see an option to add a Siri framework. I have tried adding both the intent and tap, intent frameworks, which does not seem to make a difference.

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to use VNDetectTextRectanglesRequest to detect text rectangles in an image. Here's my current code:
guard let cgImage = image.cgImage(forProposedRect: nil, context: nil, hints: nil) else {
return
}
let textDetectionRequest = VNDetectTextRectanglesRequest { request, error in
if let error = error {
print("Text detection error: \(error)")
return
}
guard let observations = request.results as? [VNTextObservation] else {
print("No text rectangles detected.")
return
}
print("Detected \(observations.count) text rectangles.")
for observation in observations {
print(observation.boundingBox)
}
}
textDetectionRequest.revision = VNDetectTextRectanglesRequestRevision1
textDetectionRequest.reportCharacterBoxes = true
let handler = VNImageRequestHandler(cgImage: cgImage, orientation: .up, options: [:])
do {
try handler.perform([textDetectionRequest])
} catch {
print("Vision request error: \(error)")
}
The request completes without error, but no text rectangles are detected — the observations array is empty (count = 0). Here's a sample image I'm testing with:
I expected VNTextObservation results, but I'm not getting any. Is there something I'm missing in how this API works? Or could it be a limitation of this request or revision?
Thanks for any help!
I couldn't find information about this in the documentation. Could someone clarify if this API is available and how to access it?
I'm the creator of an app that helps users learn Arabic. Inside of the app users can save words, engage in lessons specific to certain grammar concepts etc. I'm looking for a way for Siri to 'suggest' my app when the user asks to define any Arabic words. There are other questions that I would like for Siri to suggest my app for, but I figure that's a good start. What framework am I looking for here? I think AppItents? I remember I played with it for a bit last year but didn't get far. Any suggestions would be great.
Would the new Foundations model be any help here?
