Background Upload Extension
Hello, We are trying to use the new Background Upload Extension to improve uploads of assets (Photos, Live Photos, Videos) in the background in our application. 1 - We implemented the code to upload still images. We would like to do the same for Live Photos but we are not sure how to proceed since a Live Photo is composed of 2 resources that we would like to upload in the same job so that we keep the association between the 2 resources. Steps: A Live Photo is captured on the device. Our application is notified for new content in the Photo Library and the asset is queued for upload by our application. The system calls the background upload extension and the Live Photo is prepared for upload but we can schedule a job only for one resource (still photo or paired video) so we can not upload both resources in a single job. 2 - Is there a way to synchronise the application and the extension so that the application would not process the same data or execute the same requests than the extension. For example: our application is working with tokens and we would like to prevent those tokens to be consumed by the application and the extension at the same time. 3 - is there a command in xcode or terminal to start or stop the extension, something similar to what exists for processing tasks (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/backgroundtasks/starting-and-terminating-tasks-during-development).

ApplicationMusicPlayer.shared player.play() permission denied in app sandbox (Tauri)
Hi, I'm developing a Tauri V2 app on MacOS, and am wanting to implement playback controls. It seems that Apple locks down playback, requiring a signed application. My app also has capabilities to "get currently playing track", and I confirmed this works; Apple produces a popup triggered by my await MusicAuthorization.request() call. It returns nil, of course, because I can't get anything to play via the ApplicationMusicPlayer; only through the system's Apple Music app. I understand SystemMusicPlayer is not available on MacOS, which is fine. I'm just a little confused as it seems pretty standard to need to test playback controls quickly without having to codesign and do some provisionprofile embedding acrobatics each time Rust re-compiles target/debug. This slows down development a lot. I do have these entries in my Entitlements.plist: <key>com.apple.security.personal-information.media-library</key> <true/> <key>com.apple.developer.music-kit</key> <true/> <key>com.apple.security.app-sandbox</key> <true/> In my tauri.conf.json, I have: "macOS": { "entitlements": "./Entitlements.plist", "signingIdentity": "Apple Development: ()" } My application works like this: I have a temporary button click to fire off a tauriinvoke() command which goes to a #tauri::command, which bridges to Swift code. Again, I validated that my less-permissive "get currently playing track" works; i.e., does not get permission denied. exact error message: [swift] playMedia error: .permissionDenied (^specifically, ".permissionDenied") My code to trigger playback of a specific media item: Task { print("[swift] entered sema Task") let status: MusicAuthorization.Status = await MusicAuthorization.request() print("auth status: \(status)") guard status == .authorized else { sema.signal(); return } print("passed the status guard.") do { var request = MusicCatalogResourceRequest<Song>(matching: \.id, equalTo: MusicItemID(rawValue: songId)) request.limit = 1 let response = try await request.response() guard let song = response.items.first else { sema.signal(); return } let player = ApplicationMusicPlayer.shared player.queue = [song] try await player.play() success = true } catch { print("[swift] playMedia error: \(error)") } sema.signal()

AVPictureInPictureController with AVSampleBufferDisplayLayer: Video not scaled in PiP window on macOS
AVPictureInPictureController with AVSampleBufferDisplayLayer: Video not scaled in PiP window on macOS Platform: macOS 26.4 (Tahoe) Framework: AVKit / AVFoundation Xcode: 26.4 Summary When using AVPictureInPictureController with ContentSource(sampleBufferDisplayLayer:playbackDelegate:) on macOS, the video content in the PiP window is not scaled to fit — it renders at 1:1 pixel resolution, showing only the bottom-left portion of the video (zoomed/cropped). The same code works correctly on iOS. Setup let displayLayer = AVSampleBufferDisplayLayer() displayLayer.videoGravity = .resizeAspect // Host displayLayer as a sublayer of an NSView, enqueue CMSampleBuffers let source = AVPictureInPictureController.ContentSource( sampleBufferDisplayLayer: displayLayer, playbackDelegate: self ) let pip = AVPictureInPictureController(contentSource: source) pip.delegate = self The source display layer is 1280×720, matching the video stream resolution. PiP starts successfully — isPictureInPicturePossible is true, the PiP button works, and the PIPPanel window appears. However, the video in the PiP window (~480×270) shows only the bottom-left 480×270 pixels of the 1280×720 content, rather than scaling the full frame to fit. Investigation Inspecting the PiP window hierarchy reveals: PIPPanel (480×270) └─ AVPictureInPictureSampleBufferDisplayLayerView └─ AVPictureInPictureSampleBufferDisplayLayerHostView (layer = CALayerHost) └─ AVPictureInPictureCALayerHostView The CALayerHost mirrors the source AVSampleBufferDisplayLayer at 1:1 pixel resolution. Unlike AVPlayerLayer-based PiP (which works correctly on macOS), the sample buffer display layer path does not apply any scaling transform to the mirrored content. On iOS, PiP with AVSampleBufferDisplayLayer works correctly because the system reparents the layer into the PiP window, so standard layer scaling applies. On macOS, the system uses CALayerHost mirroring instead, and the scaling step is missing. What I tried (none fix the issue) Setting autoresizingMask on all PiP internal subviews — views resize correctly, but CALayerHost content remains at 1:1 pixel scale Applying CATransform3DMakeScale on the CALayerHost layer — creates a black rectangle artifact; the mirrored content does not transform Setting CALayerHost.bounds to the source layer size — no effect on rendering Reparenting the internal AVPictureInPictureCALayerHostView out of the host view — video disappears entirely Hiding the CALayerHost — PiP window goes white (confirming it is the sole video renderer) Resizing the source AVSampleBufferDisplayLayer to match the PiP window size — partially works (1:1 mirror of a smaller source fits), but causes visible lag during resize, affects the main window's "This video is playing in Picture in Picture" placeholder, and didTransitionToRenderSize stops being called after the initial resize Expected behavior The video content should be scaled to fit the PiP window, respecting the display layer's videoGravity setting (.resizeAspect), consistent with: iOS PiP with AVSampleBufferDisplayLayer (works correctly) macOS PiP with AVPlayerLayer (works correctly) Environment macOS 26.4 (Tahoe) Xcode 26.4 Apple Silicon (M-series) Retina display (contentsScale = 2.0) Video: H.264 1280×720, hardware decoded via VTDecompressionSession, enqueued as CMSampleBuffer

P3 Display to XYZ Color Space Conversion
When I use the ColorSync Utility to convert Display P3 color (1, 0, 0) to an XYZ color, the result is (0.5151, 0.2412, -0.0011). I expected that result because that is identical to the red colorant tristimulus value in the Display P3.icc file. When I use the CGColor converted method to do the same, the XYZ color is approximately (0.5151, 0.2412, 0.0). Note that the third element is 0.0 whereas it is -0.0011 when using the ColorSync Utility. I have printed out the Z component to 16 digits of precision, and Z is all 0s. It appears that the CGColor converted method is clamping the result from 0 to 1.My questions are:1. Which conversion is correct? The ColorSync utility or the CGColor converted method?2. I am not a color specialist, but I thought that the XYZ components should never be negative. If so, is the colorant tristimulus value in the Display P3.icc file wrong?3. Because CGColor clamped the Z component to 0, the XYZ color cannot be converted back exactly or closely to the Display P3 color (1, 0, 0). I would have expected to be able to go back and forth between the two color spaces when starting from a valid P3 Display color especially since the XYZ color space completely encompasses the P3 Display color space. Is that not true?4. Is (1, 0, 0) an invalid Display P3 color? If so, I can understand the peculiar results. I'm not sure how I would know if a Display P3 color is valid or not. (I only know that the component values must be from 0 to 1.) I think it is valid because Apple uses that color in the UIColor API Reference in an example.

BackgroundAssets `url(for:` throws error for locally available asset
On an iPhone running iOS 26 beta 5, url(for: FilePath("subdir/asset.mov")) most always throws this error: The URL for “subdir/asset.mov” couldn’t be retrieved: “asset.mov” couldn’t be copied to “subdir” because an item with the same name already exists. MPMusicPlayerController.applicationMusicPlayer.currentPlaybackRate no longer working in iOS 26.0 (Tahoe)?
I'm wondering if someone happened issues with currentPlaybackRate in released version of iOS 26.0? There is no issue happened in case of iOS 18.5. When I changed currentPlaybackRate on iOS 26.0, it seems to unexpectedly change currentPlaybackRate to be 0 or 1.0 forcibly no matter DRM or non-DRM contents. And also, playing music will be abnormal behavior and unstable with noise if currentPlaybackRate is not 1.0. And changes stop state and play state frequently.

iTunes Search API no longer returning explicit results?
My app has been using the iTunes Search API (itunes.apple.com/search) for a few years now, but at some point over the last week or so (late Sept. 2025) it is no longer returning track results with explicit content, regardless of whether I provide "explicit=Yes" (which is the default anyway, according to the API documentation - https://performance-partners.apple.com/search-api). Has anyone else experienced this with this API and have you figured out a workaround? FYI, I do also use the more robust Apple Music API in another part of my app, which isn't going through this issue, so I know it's technically an alternative. I just need to stick with iTunes Search API in this particular case. Thanks.

AVAudioEngine fails to start during FaceTime call (error 2003329396)
Is it possible to perform speech-to-text using AVAudioEngine to capture microphone input while being on a FaceTime call at the same time? I tried implementing this, but whenever I attempt to start the  AVAudioEngine  while a FaceTime call is active, I get the following error: “The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error 2003329396)” I assume this might be due to microphone resource restrictions during FaceTime, but I’d like to confirm whether this limitation is at the system level or if there’s any possible workaround or entitlement that allows concurrent microphone access. Has anyone encountered this issue or found a solution?

How to Implement Screen Mirroring in iOS for Google TV?
I am developing an iOS application that supports screen mirroring to Google TV (or Chromecast with Google TV). My goal is to mirror the iPhone/iPad screen in real time to a Google TV device. What I Have Tried So Far I have explored multiple approaches but haven't found a direct way to achieve low-latency screen mirroring. Here are some of my findings: Google Cast SDK: Google Cast SDK is primarily designed for casting media (videos, images, audio) rather than real-time mirroring. It supports custom receiver applications, but there are no direct APIs for full screen mirroring. Casting a recorded video is possible, but it introduces latency and is not real-time. ReplayKit for Screen Capture: RPScreenRecorder.shared().startCapture(handler: ...) allows capturing the iPhone screen as a video stream. However, sending this stream to Google TV in real time is a challenge. I could potentially encode the video as HLS and stream it, but the delay is significant. RTSP/UDP Streaming: Some third-party libraries support RTSP/UDP streaming for real-time screen sharing. Google TV does not natively support RTSP, making this approach difficult. My Questions: Is it possible to achieve real-time screen mirroring on Google TV using Google Cast SDK? Does Google TV support WebRTC or any low-latency streaming protocol that can be used from iOS? Are there any alternative approaches to mirror an iOS screen to Google TV with minimal latency? I would appreciate any guidance, code examples, or references to relevant documentation.

How do I find the catalogID for songs in a apple music playlist? (MusicKit & Apple Music API)
Hello, How do I find the apple music catalogID for songs in a apple music playlist? Im building an iOS app that uses MusicKit/Apple Music API. For this example, you can assume that my iOS app simply allows users to upload their apple music playlists. And when users open a specific playlist, I want to find the catalogID for each song. Currently all the songs are returning song IDs in this format “i.PkdJvPXI2AJgm8”. I believe these are libraryIDs, not catalogIDs. I’d like to find a front end solution using MusicKit. But perhaps a back end solution using the Apple Music Rest API is required. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

[CoreImage] OS 26 breaks Metal kernels for CIFilters
I maintain a couple of CoreImage libraries that provide custom Metal kernel backed CIFilters. In iOS/iPadOS 26, the CIColorKernel.apply() method invoked in the CIFilter subclass fails to add the coreimage::destination parameter to the Metal function call: -[CIColorKernel applyWithExtent:arguments:options:] argument count mismatch for kernel 'FractalNoise3D', expected 13 but saw 12. I've compiled the code with Xcode 26 and deployed to iOS 18 devices without any breakage, so this is definitely an iOS problem, not an Xcode problem. ffmpeg xcframework not working on Mac, but working correctly on iOS
I have an app (currently in development stage) which needs to use ffmpeg, so I tried searching how to embed ffmpeg in apple apps and found this article https://doc.qt.io/qt-6/qtmultimedia-building-ffmpeg-ios.html It is working correctly for iOS but not for macOS ( I have made changes macOS specific using chatgpt and traditional web searching) Drive link for the file and instructions which I'm following: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/11wqlvb8SU2thMSfII4_Xm3Kc2fPSCZed?usp=share_link Please can someone from apple or in general help me to figure out what I'm doing wrong?

Apple Music / MusicKit and Simulator
It's been an ask for a few years and I'm wondering if there are any plans, or whether the '26 SDKs/Tools allow Apple Music to work in the simulator? I develop for the Vision Pro so the usual 'fix' of running on the device is a bit of a hard ask. At the very least a small sample library that works in the simulator would be welcome (similar to how photos works) Cheers

How to fetch a library song via MusicKit or Apple Music API if the id a non numeric format?
If I fetch a library playlist like the generated "Favorites" playlist via MusicKit like this guard let initialTracks = try await playlist.with([.tracks]).tracks else { return nil } I get a list of tracks like this: ... TrackID: i.e5gmPS6rZ856 TrackID: i.4ZQMxU0OxNg0 TrackID: i.J198KH4P85K4 TrackID: i.J1AaRC4P85K4 TrackID: i.4BPqWt0OxNg0 TrackID: 4473570282773028026 TrackID: 4473570282773028025 TrackID: 4015088256684964387 TrackID: 4473570282773028024 TrackID: 7541557725362154249 TrackID: 4473570282773028027 I save the IDs for later use, but when I want to fetch them, only the ones with ids that starts with "i." work. static func getLibrarySong(from id: String) async -> Song? { var request = MusicLibraryRequest<Song>() request.filter(matching: \.id, equalTo: MusicItemID(id)) do { let response = try await request.response() return response.items.first } catch { ... } } Or the Apple Music API endpoint : static func getLibrarySongFromAPI(with id: String) async -> Song? { guard let url = AppleMusicURL.getURL(for: .getSongById, id: id) else { return nil } do { let dataRequest = MusicDataRequest(urlRequest: URLRequest(url: url)) let dataResponse = try await dataRequest.response() let response = try JSONDecoder().decode(SongsResponse.self, from: dataResponse.data) return response.data.first } catch { ... } } Both functions above won't work for the non numeric like 4473570282773028024 so it seems the ID is wrong, but how do I make it work? Otherwise I can fetch all the songs fine, in catalog or in the library, but these few songs can't be individually fetched, only with the try await playlist.with([.tracks])` fetch, that gets the whole playlist. But obviously this isn't always possible. Thanks in advance!

BPM/Tempo information for Songs via Apple Music API
Hello everyone, I'm working on a project where having the BPM or tempo for a song is a business requirement. I can't seem to find this data on the Song object in the Apple Music API. Is this information available via the API and I'm just not finding it in the documentation? If it isn't available, how would I go about requesting it to be added? Thanks!

FaceTime Hang Up
When I’m on FaceTime, my phone will randomly end my call? I have an iPhone 17, iOS 26.1. Some times I won’t even be touching my phone screen and it’ll hang up. I’m not sure if this is a universal issue or just a me problem. It’s getting really annoying.
